I went from 12700k to 14700k as a gamer and had some regrets. Specifically, because with resale of my old equipment and a Microcenter bundle it seemed like a no brainer.

The performance upgrade is minimal, but you need some intensive cooling. Power consumption is wild. Not sure I'd recommend Intel 13th/14th generation with the ongoing stability issues as background noise.

What do you think about someone coming from an i9-9900k?

I have an i7 12700k and I am very happy with it. I do have serious doubts about the performance of later gens also and I am going to give AMD another go round... specifically one of the 3D cpu's.

Thanks for confirming I'm sticking with my 12700K for gaming specifically.

Great deal, I would buy this to upgrade my 8700k if I had a Microcenter nearby. This is a good upgrade for anyone with 11th gen or older. Not much point in upgrading if you have a 12th gen or newer, the main benefit there would be the ddr5 ram. The 15th gen will be a new socket, requiring a new mobo, so if you have a 12th gen or newer you should wait. Else you will have a paid for a system with no future upgrade path.

I upgraded from a i7 9700K, I thought originally that Win 11 didn't support the 9th gens but I guess I was wrong. Oh well Smilie

My 14700 idles between 33-45 degrees. Dunno why people complain about it. If you're that worried, undervolting is easy and performance takes nearly no hit on these.

This is from this exact kit, btw, from Xmas time.

No idea, I never had an i9-9900k.

Maybe just grab a 12700k or go AMD. 13-14000k are heat monsters. How is your case? Cooling?

Does anyone care about idle temperature in real life? I had the same AIO and with a 12700k I could overclock it a little bit. The 14700k I had to undervolt and it uses a ton more energy. I guess my frame rate went from 155 to about 165 on a WQHD monitor.
