You're correct that there are now more advanced curcumin formulations available that offer improved bioavailability compared to traditional curcumin with black pepper. Here's an overview of some key formulations:

Meriva is a patented curcumin formulation that uses phosphatidylcholine to form a phytosome complex. This improves curcumin absorption by mimicking how it's traditionally consumed with fats in Indian cuisine and medicine. Studies have shown Meriva to be effective for joint health, eye health, and supportive care.

Longvida utilizes a Solid Lipid Curcumin Particle (SLCP) Technology to enhance absorption and target delivery to tissues. It has been researched for cognitive and mood benefits.

Theracurmin uses nanoparticle technology to create microscopic curcumin particles dispersed in a colloidal suspension. This dramatically increases its solubility and bioavailability.

These advanced formulations are indeed more expensive than basic curcumin with black pepper, but research indicates they offer superior absorption and efficacy:

- Meriva has been validated in over 30 human clinical trials with 2,000 subjects.
- Longvida has shown 65 times higher peak plasma levels compared to standard curcumin.
- Theracurmin demonstrated 27 times higher bioavailability than regular curcumin in human studies.

While black pepper (piperine) can enhance curcumin absorption to some degree, its effects are not as consistent or potent as these newer formulations. The advanced delivery systems used in products like Meriva, Longvida, and Theracurmin appear to offer more reliable improvements in bioavailability and therapeutic potential.

Not that great. The turmeric supplements at Costco (qunol, you theory, Kirkland) are all significantly higher in turmeric extract. My Kirkland one was $30 for 240 pills, 120 serving with each serving being 1000mg and 950mg of that is the extract. Most of the turmeric supplements you find are mostly just regular ground turmeric in a capsule with minor amounts of black pepper and extract. Costco almost always wins at the supplement game in terms of quality/price.

Thanks for the idea. Unfortunately, there's no option for that in my rural area. These have been my go-to for inflammation after a recent knee surgery.

You don't need a supplement for turmeric. Shop for a minimally processed turmeric pickle at an Indian store. Its a great immunity booster with a flavor that packs a punch. Also great for your gut health.

It's $11.50, about $1 more, for the same number of smaller capsules?

Wish you a speedy recovery. You can also include fresh turmeric in your diet which is naturally anti inflammatory. Order some fresh or organic ground turmeric and make golden milk or golden latte. You can also open these supplement capsules and add them to the drink but I'd only take the supplement as a supplement.

It's certainly not a good turmeric supplement, with 100 mg standardized extract, and I have no reason to trust this brand, even if it was, even more for selling this low level stuff, but if it isn't turmeric, what is it?

'This one' isn't good either. A proprietary formula, so you don't know how much 95% standardized extracct is in it, and how much is just ground up turmeric.

Better deal for not a better supplement. Although, at least being a known brand, I assume what's on the label is in the caps. I don't know with the OP supplement.

You should probably add a word of caution. Fresh turmeric can dye things VERY easily. You need to wear gloves when processing it. It will dye your fingers and nails yellow. It is incredibly difficult to remove the coloring. If it gets in clothing, the same problem occurs. The easiest scam would be these companies putting ground turmeric and ground black pepper in these pills. You can get ground turmeric from any Indian market in bulk for cheap. Ground black pepper too. Even cheaper.

It wouldn't shock me if that's what they are doing.
Easiest profit margin ever.
