I've owned one and found it difficult to use unless the soil was just the right level of dry. The idea looks like it should work, and when it did it was like "aha" but what usually happened was the bent part prevented me from getting deep enough and then just made a dent in the top soil.

I went to a Japanese gardening knife I found at Aldi. It's been a fantastic tool for a number of tasks.

Yeah this thing is basically useless. For most tough weeds it breaks their root. Better off with a trowel or shovel

I've used this in hard, dry clay soil and it removed almost everything (root included) without issue

I have the same experience. This thing will remove some of the root but the bottom of the root will be broken.I guess it's best for weeds with roots that don't go deep.

I've had completely different results from most of the comments on here but after extensive use. So the bend does make it difficult to get through; however it isn't needed to go deep to pull the entire root of the weed up. Once I stopped really trying to and figured out just plunging near the center, I started pulling weeds and their center root system pretty regularly. It takes practice but the idea is that it lifts the butt of the weed with a tiny bit of root in between. Anything more and it becomes less effective

If you did this in my yard you'd be weeding every day

Bought this on a previous deal and it was useless for me. Way quicker just to grab and pull 2-3 times to get the weed out.

For this tool, I had to keep plunging at the base of the tree multiple times and there was no leverage for the tool to go against to pull the weed up and out.
