Sadly, I've pulled thousands of dandelions over the last decade+ and the best tool I've found is a "traditional dandelion weeder". I like Sneeboer tools but you can find these at places like Ace Hardware (Ace Steel Weed Cutter) for the cost of a coffee and it'll last you a very long time.

Grab weed by its top growth.
Plunge weeder head at an angle an inch or so from weed root.
Push down on handle to pull up weed.
If you cannot feel the weed coming up when pushing down on handle reposition weeder head and push down until it starts to come up.
The black rubber did come off of my first weeder and I assume I can RMA it but I think I'm a bit attached to it so I think I'll keep it.

I purchased it and like many others in this thread ordered a second one after receiving it. It has a large handle and lots of leverage to get to the roots of weeds. It is the best weeder I have owned by far.
