the rpg / anime crowd has a big collecting aspect to it, but as for players, when the digital price gets cheap enough, it outweigns any future benefits to "reselling a physical game" as the commisions and shipping costs can easily be the same or more than the cost of the digital game.

Exactly this. At some point the cost of physical doesn't make sense.

But this one will be a grail worth $600 in 30 years and cover the losses on all those other ones that kept getting cheaper and losing me money to inflation.

Going to be your primary option. New is going for up to +100% over retail on physical now.

600 in 30 years is about the same value it is today. After inflation you don't make much.

I think they were being facetious.

Any thoughts on the actual games? Any reason to play them for someone with plenty of solid JRPGs and SRPGs in their backlog already?

These are two of my favorite NIS games (NIS is the developer of the Disgaea series). Phantom Brave is similar to Disgaea with a slight twist on the formula (instead of summoning your units, you transform objects in the environment into them for limited time). Soul Nomad is more like Ogre Battle (a sadly underrepresented genre) but has an excellent story and a genocide route that makes Undertale look tame. Tons of replayability in both games (NG+ with multiple endings and secret bosses).

Both are PS2 era but sprite graphics tend to age well and the battles lend themselves to portable gaming on Switch/Steam Deck. Steam price for PB has gone to $4 but SN has never gone below 10 bucks, so it's basically getting the former for free.

Phantom Brave was a great game on PS2 (and later ported to Wii I believe). Wish La Pucelle was on this

Worth pointing out that Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero, is releasing next year, so this is a great price for someone interested in playing the sequel but hasn't played the original game.

I remember enjoying it on the PS2, but it's been 20 years since I played it so my recollections are a bit vague.

Pretty sure that game is in a very similar NIS bundle for Switch, either vol. 2 or vol. 3

La Pucelle is in Vol 3. It is on sale as well but only down to $25 instead of $10. At $25 I would go with the $35 physical deluxe edition on Amazon.

I had to stop playing Soul Nomad on Switch, because a mission kept soft locking when I beat the boss. I tried 10 times to beat the mission, and no dice. I don't think they've ever fixed that bug.
