These just keep getting cheaper, like TVs and hard drives. The difference: old model vacuums aren't that materially different from the newest ones. My vacuum advice: always get an old model. My S4 Max and Q5 still work like a champ, and the simpler models don't have the bells and whistles that are more likely to break.

The ones with the auto empty docking station is a must imo. I've owned the first gen Xiaomi one, the older S4 and a Samsung Jetbot+ one with a auto empty dock.

Total game changer in terms of intervention. With the ones without one I had to empty it pretty much daily but did it for 3 vacuums. Kind of a pain.

Side note... avoid vacuums with poor third party support. My Samsung needs parts and no third party sells them. I'm forced to order through Samsung phone support directly because their website doesn't have any parts I need or if it does, costs a ton. Not worth the cheap initial cost I paid for it.

I've had this for about 2 years now. It's great except for the obvious - no auto empty dock. With that said, I wouldn't pay ~$300 for this in 2024. Unless one of my vacs suddenly and completely died.

Auto-empty vacs prices have been reasonably trending downward. I'm hoping we'll see decent auto-empty Roborock vacs by the holidays at the same price point. Just speculation. Smilie

Prior poster also mentioned availability of replacement parts. This is valid. Xiaomi / Roborock vacs are easy to find parts for on Amazon or Aliexpress. I have a 360 S6 for another floor of my home and some ancient ILife dumbvac for the lower level. I've had to replace regular wear and tear items like Lithium batteries, beater bars/brushes, and filters. They've been going for 4-5 years now and still work well with the maintenance.

You've pointed out something key that I think people overlook. If you have to empty it "pretty much daily," then I assume you have a situation perhaps with lots of carpet and pets. I get that.

For somebody like me with no kids, pets, or carpeting, I would caution folks to consider whether auto-empty is the right choice.

I run my vacs (I have one on each level) 2-4 times/week and empty the bins no more than weekly, but when I do, I clean the filter and untangle things from the roller. Would it be nice to "set it and forget it" and empty them every couple of months? I don't know. These are mechanical items. When I pick up the vac, I sometimes find things tangled in the roller and side brush that prevent it from cleaning well and puts stress on the motor. Once the bottom popped off and the roller fell out and it kept running the schedule without a roller at all, just blowing dust around -- until I checked it, then found the brush under a piece of furniture.

Again, for those of you whose bin would fill up daily, I get it, but it's not that simple to me.

Can I purchase this and then purchase the dock separately? Would that make sense?

Yes you can. It is compatible with both Q-line docks and S-line docks. I personally got the S dock. A dock is a must.

I had a Q5 Max and might go with this Q7 max for first floor. However my experience with Q5 on area rugs is not very positive. My rugs have dark patterns and the vacuum struggles trying to avoid those dark patches and going around then. Can anyone here chime in with your experience with Q7 and area rugs with dark brown or black patterns?

Every robo vacuum with cliff sensors has the same problem. The only way around it is to get something to cover the sensor that reflects IR back, but you wouldn't want to do that if you have any real cliffs (stairs or anything else it can fall down)

Agreed. Have two without docs, run them 3x a week and only empty once a week. 3 adults and a cat here. The dock isn't needed.

Same problem with my q5, I have a black area rug and it can't vacuum that room

If anyone can answer this, can q7 perform well on black surfaces and another problem with my q5 is that it performs very poorly at the edges of these area rugs

Eufy has a couple refurbished +2 year warranty auto empty options under $200 on eBay right now. I got a LR60 Hybrid+ (mop too) with auto empty for $160 and if it shits the bed I have a 2 year Allstate warranty.
