This is a great way to scratch your car by dragging dust all around it. Ask any detail person their opinion or let them show you proof. You will get spider web scratches each time you will use. Not worth it at all.

And that's why it's called "California Car Duster" vs. "California Car Cleaner."

(I have one and it's perfect to clean the dust off our vehicles).

Amen. I just bought a water pistol and it's nothing special. All it does is squirt water.

These are great for quickly dusting off cars that are in storage or don't get on the road very often. I actually just purchased one last week. They wear out over time but it will last you many years.

Back in my early 20s with no kid, lots of time and TLC (Tons of Loose Cash as my Dad would say) I used one of these to dust my car off at work on breaks or lunch hour in the summer. Worked well for pollen and dust. Made sense considering all the time I spent with clay bar, wax, and quick detailer. Coworkers thought I was crazy. Fast forward another 20 years and I can agree. I haven't quite made it to the "my car only gets washed when it rains" crowd, but we'll see 20 years from now.

Serious question to those that own one of these already - would this be useful for dusting the outside soffits of eaves of roofs (i.e to remove spider webs)?

Used this when I was younger before I knew much about cars. This is for removing dust from CLEAN cars. Not dirty. Not washing 2 days ago.

No matter what, it will eventually just swirl the paint with what it picks up. Black paint made it more obvious in my experience.

Yes, but it's more like relocating spider / webs to a new home. Car dust isn't much different than eaves dust, but this is made of cotton - wet / greasy /clingy organics will make for a tricky duster cleaning, else smell like a ... original wet mop.

Edit: Removed "drying" the duster. Not a detailer, but I hear ya- these are _not to be gotten wet nor wet-cleaned, unless its final days demoted to more shoddy duties.

Two "spider web" references of different meanings in near adjacent comments!

I felt for a second that the ultra-detailing purists found micro-photographic evidence of nature's strong webbing actually abrading modern clear/ceramic-coats / paints. But it was just a false spidey-sense.

You'd probably want something with an extension pole. I've seen pest guys clean them with large sponges or wet towels wrapped at the end of extension poles.

My local Costco has this one on clearance for $14.97 (12' extension model). it comes with an oversized toilet bowl scrubber head meant for spiderwebs

We use these at all of our fire stations. They work really well when the vehicle has some light road dust. We also wax our apparatus twice a year. I wouldn't recommend it if you don't keep up with waxing though.
