Amtrak offers 2 different unlimited ride passes within a specified period of time. There is one for USA and one for California only, in coach. These pass allow you to hop on and off the train, paying 1 single discounted price per person. There are no blackout dates.
USA Rail Pass [amtrak.com] $499 Pass is valid for 120 days after purchase (30 days after first segment is traveled). Coach travel only to hop on/off the train across 500 destinations.
California Rail Pass [amtrak.com] $159 Adult; $79.50 Kids
Valid for travel on any 7 days during a consecutive 21-day period to hop on/off the train within California
