May I say $5 would be more appropriate? AirTags' functionality has been reduced significantly. I'm extremely unhappy with it but I bought it before they nerfed it.

i have never used airtag before and i was looking to use it with keyless push start car key fob as a cheaper mitigation to find when lost compared to paying 500 to 800$ to dealer.
what all things have changed since the launch with airtag and would it meet my needs to find lost keyfob?

Airtags were extremely accurate in the past such that they started receiving lawsuits. So they reduced its accuracy. Nowadays, it won't tell you the exact location anymore but it will only tell you the closest address. So if an airtag is in a big building, like a school then it will only tell you it is at the school's address. In fact, I struggled to find my toddler son's lost bag in his school because the airtag wouldn't tell me where it was in the school, only the school's address. To make it worse, the school had multiple floors so I couldn't just walk everywhere every floor in the school to find it. So I gave up on that airtag. The same situation would happen if an airtag happens to be in an apartment complex as most of the time it will only tell you the address of the apartment complex's main office address. You get the idea.

Do they still have the feature that you can activate a sound from it to help you find the AirTag?

You got a source for this? I'm at work looking at air tags back at home - they clearly show up in different parts of the house (as they should).

It was my experience 6 months ago when I suddenly needed it to work as it should when I first bought it but realized it was nerfed instead. I don't need a source for it. A friend of mine also reported a similar experience 3 weeks ago. Because of that, I can no longer trust airtags to keep my belongings safe from that point on. If it still works for you, great.

I keep an AirTag in my luggage and can see where exactly my bag is at the airport. On the map in FindMy app it shows its precise location.
