I was able to snag it ("buy now think later"), but what makes these better than any other pliers out there?

So these are nice because they are made in the USA. They are kind of a response to Kinpex Alligator pliers.

I have a bunch of Channelocks and a bunch of Knipex. I like both.

They both beat any kinda of Chinese made pliers. I use the cheapo's when doing something in the water or if I might weld them to something...

Hehe.
