Pro tip: a wire nut makes a great screw on cap for these.

WD is a penetrating oil, good for getting stuff moving temporarily, but it will wear out quickly. 3-in-1 is also a penetrating oil but also good for more permanent applications like squeaky door hinges.

I've had a bottle of this since I can't remember when. I lost the cap long ago but just keep it upright.

I've used this on door hinges, kids bicycle, and even on hvac fan bearings and it works great.

Don't recommend it for sliding doors as it accumulates too much dirt and junk.

Wouldn't motor oil work the same ?

I use this for barbells, iron dumbbells and iron plates.
Not the best for things with frequent human contact as there's toxic chemicals. Best to use oil that safe for human touch with fitness equipment

In a garage or shop? Sure.

Inside the house...motor oil is smelly and has all kinds of additives that are best left to outside spaces.

For hinges, sewing machines, small appliances, zippers, luggage casters...3-in-1 is a better choice.
I'll add that they make a small motor oil version of this, in a light blue bottle. I lubricated my bathroom fan with this and it didn't last very long until it got noisy. I hope that one lasts longer.

3-1 oil is what everyone uses for barbells, weights etc though.

WD40 is a thin cleaner/rust remover, not a god choice for a long lasting lubricant.
Thanks, I thought I could also use it to loosen stuck and rusted parts to save me the need to buy both. Does it have a strong chemical smell like WD40?

The strong smell from WD40 comes from the propellent and solvents. 3-1 is pretty much stank free.

The 3oz size is also on sale if you don't need a larger bottle.

Eh, they've been plastic as long as I remember.

The bottle will be fine long before you are old.

There's also the squirt bottle with an extension nozzle version, but its not always best as it doesn't really work upside down while this does.

Not bashing the product. But motor oil will do anything this stuff will. Buy a little oiler pump for a one time price of this product and keep it full with your excess motor oil.

hmm, I have a lot of squeaky door hinges. Anything better than this for hinges? do you guys have any luck oiling hinges without removing the bolt?
