The 128GB is still very much usable. They should absolutely make it 256GB baseline, but I expect they kept that down the road as a "future upgrade" to maintain current pricing while upgrading the space.
With that said, I have the 128GB version and have the following installed on it, with a couple gigs to spare:
Accounting+
ARK and ADE
Audica
Audio Trip
Beat Saber
BoneLab
BoneLab Mod: Boneworks
Cosmic Flow
Dead Second
Quest Games Optimizer
Death Horizon 2
Deo VR
Echo VR
First Encounters
First Hand
Killer Frequency
Les Mills Body Combat
Lies Beneath
Liminal
Max Mustard
Meta Horizon Worlds
OhShape
Operation Serpents
Pistol Whip
PowerBeats VR
Propagation Paradise Hotel
Sidequest
Ragnarock
Rez Infinite
Runner
Samba De Amigo
Sky Climb
Skybox VR
Smash Drums
Space Channel 5
Space Salvage Demo
Steam Link
Stilt
Stride Fates
Superhot VR
Supernatural Unreal Fitness
Sushi Ben
Swarm
Swarm 2
Synth Riders
Synth Riders Custom DLC
TrackCraft demo
Tetris Effect
Thumper
Tiger Blade
TRIPP
Underdogs
Unplugged: Air Guitar
Venta X
Virtual Desktop
Youtube VR
Zombieland
Not installed:
Asgards Wrath 2 (This is a big title!)
Crazy Kung Fu
With that said, the ones installed aren't the biggest titles, but everything but 2 titles fit on the 128GB model along with custom/side-loaded DLC. The upgrade to 512GB at $150 just seemed like a bit overkill. At $99? I'd do it without question
It's a substantial upgrade with the lenses and the external cameras alone, but 128GB for a console that launched in 2023 is ridiculous. It's like the Quest 2 launching with 64GB all over again, which is why I'm in no rush to be an early adopter and get burned when (hopefully) they get their shit together and make 256GB the baseline.

Same thoughts - is there such a difference between the two that makes it worthwhile?
I bought the Quest 2 and Quest 3 at launch, both very capable devices still, but the future will be in the Quest 3. The Quest 2 has hold it's own, with Meta "unlocking" some of the extra CPU power about a year ago and letting it take advantage of higher quality games.
The obvious benefits of the Quest 3 are the additional CPU power, giving you better visuals, textures, resolution and framerates in current games. I highly recommend buying "Quest Games Optimizer" - it's like $10 and lets you tweak the various components of every game, letting you max them out more than intended (especially useful for older games that were developed for lower powerful hardware and never updated)
The lenses are a huge upgrade, going from fresnel to pancake lenses. This gives a much larger "sweet spot" instead of a clear spot in the center and blurry edges.
Passthrough Cameras: The cameras are now in color.. and useable! You can read things clearly unlike the blurry/grainy black and white ones on Quest 2. Lots more games are implementing passthrough (where you see your room and VR elements appear within it) which are fun to play and show off.
New games: Newer games are being designed just for the Quest 3 and will not run on the Quest 1/2. There's a new Batman/Arkham game, an Alien game. It looks like others like Hitman VR and other passthrough/mixed reality games are being listed as an exclusive.
Controllers: I didn't notice much of an improvement other than the "rings" are gone, so no more smashing them into walls! (But you might still smash your hands, at least you won't break your $150 controllers)
Overall: For the current lineup.. the Quest 2 works. If you want the best experience, the best 'quality of life' upgrades and it to work with the newer games coming out? Quest 3 is the way to go 100%
If you have a quest 2 already, I wouldn't really rush out and buy the Quest 3.. I'm sure there will be deals this holiday season, but if you've been looking to upgrade or on the fence about it, and you actually use the Quest 2, I will say the upgrades are totally worth it
This offer grants you a one-year (12-month) subscription to TRIPP for 39.99 USD. The Discounted Subscription is subject to other terms and conditions, renewals, and other restrictions or additions. (tripp.com).
Does this force you into a renewal that you can't cancel out of in one year, didn't see a mention in TOS but the deal seems a bit fishy.

I don't believe they could force you to renew legally. Even if they do something slimy like auto-renew and make it hard to get out, enough credit card chargebacks will change that behavior.

Especially with Meta.com, I use Privacy.com to create a virtual credit card number (free) and set a limit of just a few dollars. Whenever I want to purchase something in their store, I just increase the limit to have enough to purchase the item (Walkabout mini-golf courses, for example). It's quick, easy, and one way to combat the slimy auto-renewal-without-notice business practices.

Never heard of Tripp. I guess it's like a meditation acid trip experience?
Either way, $100 off the quest 3 is great! Now I need to decide if I want to upgrade our Q2.
Upgrading to the Quest 3 is worth it for the pancake lenses, better resolution, and upgraded processor alone. The pancake lenses are thinner and lighter, making the headset more comfortable and giving you a clearer view with less distortion. The higher resolution (2064 x 2208 per eye) means everything looks sharper and more detailed. Plus, the faster refresh rate of 120Hz ensures smoother visuals. The new Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor offers better performance, faster load times, and can handle more demanding VR applications.
Here are some additional reasons why the Quest 3 is a solid upgrade over the Quest 2:
- **Mixed Reality Capabilities**: The Quest 3 includes advanced mixed reality features with improved color passthrough, allowing for more immersive and interactive experiences that blend the virtual and real worlds seamlessly.
- **Comfort and Fit**: The Quest 3 has been redesigned for better ergonomics, featuring a more balanced weight distribution and adjustable head straps. This means less pressure on your face and head, making it more comfortable for longer use.
- **Field of View (FoV)**: The Quest 3 offers a wider field of view, increasing from 89 degrees to around 110 degrees. This enhances peripheral vision and makes the VR experience feel more expansive and immersive.
- **Storage Options**: The Quest 3 comes with larger storage capacities, with options up to 512GB compared to the Quest 2's maximum of 256GB. This allows for more apps, games, and media storage without worrying about space constraints.
Also upgraded controllers and the new Batman game coming out won't be available on the quest 2 if that's a concern.
I'm waiting for the rumored Quest 3S (which supposedly uses the Q2 lens with a projected price of $299) so that I may be able to reuse my Q2 lens inserts, but this is a really good price...
Does anyone have experience with ordering from Tripp? Just wondering, never heard of them...
As others have said, going from Q2 to Q3 feels like a generational leap. Like going from a ps3 to a ps4. Quest 2 is still fine, but you will feel the difference putting on a Quest 3 for the first time.
The quest 2 had limited uses. The quest 3 has been so great that both my sons have one. I didn't want to spend $550 to buy one for myself but I did with this price !
Question to those who pulled the trigger. I used Google Pay, so I skipped filling out address. Got a single email, but nothing listing my shipping address at all. Is this normal?

I don't know much about VR but would this be a good headset if I want to use it with my racing sim?
Yes you can either do a wired connection with a usb c or do wireless with virtual desktop, steam's app or meta's airlink.

I doubt even if they used the same lenses, the shape would be the same. So you might not be able to use the same inserts. The lenses of the quest 3 make a big difference. At an only $100 price difference, I would say get the quest 3 instead of the 3S.
