I wasn't the one who downvoted you, but this rationale is getting tired on this website. You know Barnes isn't a Mom and Pop operation, but a corporation too..right? If you're referring to their warehouse guidelines, that's literally 70% of every shipping business (we just don't hear about it because they're not as big). Barnes is great company (I go quite a bit), but I knew they were in trouble decades ago when they started letting people literally hang out there all day without buying anything instead of going to their local library. The one near me became a daycare for about 2-3 summers until they got a hold of the situation.

Well it's also nice to have competition and also brick and morter. And yes amazon is even more soulless than your average soulless company.

I see this but the premium still seems to be too high for movie discs compared to the non-Criterion versions.

I started up my physical collection again 3 months ago after having a couple of digital movies deleted from my Amazon and Hulu accounts. I am not spending money on digital license anything anymore unless it is the ONLY option. I am up to 2,000 blu-ray's and 1,000 DVD's totaling 3,600 movies. I am buying from pawn shops, Goodwill, thrift stores, fbm, etc at 25 cents to $3 each. I have only found 1 Criterion DVD which is Election with Reese and Matthew. Love the cover, watched it and it was a beautiful transfer for DVD.

Those that buy Criterion do not get rid of them so easily. I don't plan on going the full Criterion route, but if something catches my eye at a good price, I may pick it up. I'm looking at Time Bandits Blu-ray for $19.99.

When you see a standard studio transfer to Blu-ray or 4K that is usually rushed for cost savings, then look at those that take the time to do it right like Shout! Factory and especially Criterion, you'll understand why there is the price difference.

I compare it to Audiophiles who say vinyl is more crisp than digital, or those that can hear the difference between a 192kbps MP3 and a 320kbps MP3 file. Differences can be subtle at times but they are there. Other times it is blatantly in your face in the video quality (and audio tracks). For example I have 2 copies of Weekend at Bernie's because one has a better video transfer and sucky audio track, the other has a decent video transfer but clear audio track.

Are they going to do the other Wong Kar Wai movies in 4k? I know they already have In the Mood for Love but Fallen Angels and Chungking Express are two of my favorites.

That's why I always get a kick when people debate between DV vs HDR and find out their content is from streaming!

For me it's even a much bigger downgrade since watching is more 85/15% AQ.
My players(Panasonic 820/420) does such a good job with upscaling.
I have no problem buying used BRs especially if it includes the object based soundtrack!
As far as 4k I'll buy those used also or $8-10 new depending how much I want it and transfer.

I only wanted to get The Others 4k because of the review on how good the object based soundtrack was.
It's one of the few movies that is a straight 4k PQ transfer(no HDR).
Usually those transfers are not good to say the least but with Criterion, that is not the case!
I've only bought 3 4k on release date, Lord of the Rings,Saving Private Ryan & Titanic!
They all got a reference transfer especially Titanic!
The Others is the only other one I paid more for.
Digital I usually try to sell, makes the purchase even less expensive.

If you watch infernal affairs trilogy, there are a lot of time jumps backwards and forward. There is a chronological version that cuts all 3 movies into a single movie with no time jumps.
