For people that have used this and Eufy branded cameras, any thoughts on which is better ?

Seems like Eufy is more popular around here ?
Eufy was the first out of the gate a handful of years ago with 2K cameras that were affordable so I jumped on them. As of 2 months ago I had five or so of their 2K models now I am slowly replacing them (3 replaced so far) with tapos (specifically the c-120, I'm waiting to do their PTZ until their next version comes out that allows Poe) the c-120 is a great camera but according to reports it has less of an antenna than eufy 2k cameras (I have very good Wi-Fi coverage in the house and outside so I have not experienced any Wi-Fi problems even with the 2K camera I installed at the back gate.) eufy cameras are still limited to 128 GB even their newest 4K cameras. Other downside is if you do 24/7 recording (SD card or any of their gateways) with eufy it is limited to 1080p on all 2K cameras including the latest ones released. The app that eufy uses is also limited to viewing one camera at a time even these days. With tapo you can view I believe four cameras at once per screen. The c-120, which is the camera I strongly suggest unless you absolutely need PTZ, also has QHD resolution instead of just 2K and it does in fact record 24/7 in QHD. Additionally the c120 has glass break, dog barking, cat meowing, and line crossing features and is rated for outdoor use. The nighttime resolution and view is just night and day between the c-120 and eufy 2ks as well. To say that I am a convert is an understatement, the last advantage tapo has is you can manually change the sensitivity for motion, people, and each sound detection as opposed to only changing the sensitivity for video and sound detection. This allows you to properly dial in feed detection settings to minimize false alerts (my eufy camera on the other hand kept alerting me that a stack of books was a person...)

I do miss the rich alerts that eufy offered, but not enough to make up for the downsides vs the $30 tapo c120 (have not used this one and from the various reviews probably wouldn't recommend it over the c120 unless you absolutely need ptz as the 120 is a generation further along adds official indoor/outdoor usage as well as the beta sound alerts and better resolution/night vision.)

Edit: one thing that is missing from the tapo app vs eufy is the ability to temporarily mute alerts from a specific camera but hopefully they will add that soon as it's not a hard bit of coding (you have to either kill all alerts or set up a schedule neither of which appeals to me)

ONVIF / RTSP support?
I have this and a C120 set up using Home Assistant's ONVIF integration, and they work well enough. PTZ commands function correctly.

Not sure why, but I have had trouble getting my C210's RTS/ONVIF to work with some programs/apps. VLC and tinyCam Pro haven't worked for me, but iSpy and Home Assistant work. My Tapo C120 DOES work in tinyCam, though.

I have a couple of these mainly used for pet cameras. For the price I have no complaints. Idk what ppl are talking about not being able to see clearly on them. Mine are very clear and the night vision is dern impressive for $20.

Probably their crappy router/internet speeds or the camera is too far away for good signal. I think PoE is the best for quality & stability. I heard ubiquiti bullet is very nice 4k but is over $400+ & you need poe hardware so it will cost aLOT

Have been using these with 256GB for a few months now, and can say they are great for indoor cams. Good enough quality to identify everything happening in a room. You can also set it up with scheduled recording, so that it records to the SD card non-stop for certain periods, or all the time. I have it setup to do full time recording only at night, and motion detection recording the rest of the time. I haven't had any issues with it in over 8 months of usage, with no down time or lost recordings so far.

Does this work with tinycam, or have browser support, how bad is the app, and does it rely on the cloud?

Can I buy Tapo camera and then add Eufi. And then see both cameras through one app? Thanks! Smilie Also, can anyone recommend an indoor camera that has a really loud speaker for voice? I need to get it to talk with my dad who is hearing impaired.

Does your line crossing work properly all the time? I set up line crossing, it detects people/cars crossing the line, but the event shows as people/cars but not line crossing.

Been using these and several other Tapo cameras for a couple years. They are great cameras. The outdoor C320WS are excellent, and even though not POE can be used fine with POE adapters. This camera (C210) is an indoor camera with excellent video quality.

No one has mentioned what I feel is the biggest advantage of these, though. It's the way they interact with Alexa. Most cams can be viewed on Alexa Shows, but these cameras will generate a "there's a person" audio/video alert if the feature is turned on. I've only found one other brand that will do this and it's Wyze, but lets face it, Wyze cams have lots of reliability issues. Tapos don't, they're rock solid, especially the ones with Ethernet adapters such as the C320WS. This Alexa feature also makes it super easy to trigger Alexa routines with motion detection.

There is ONE drawback that might be a dealbreaker. You can only view the live feed of the camera on two sources at once. So if you're running it using ONVIF to a NAS or NVR, that's one. If I'm looking at it on my phone, that's 2. At that point no other device can access the stream. I'd like them to fix this "feature".

I'm hoping they'll soon release some Tapo 4k's.

I liked Eufy 2 years ago. When they work, they are great, but Eufy can't get their act together and every time they update their firmware, they break something and you can't access the footage. There was a time the playback function was completely broken and you couldn't watch any footage at all. Most recently, there was an update around June that made the cameras unable to decrypt the recordings saved from before the updates. So I went for so redundancy with the Tapos and this is my experience.
  • Tapo has line crossing, which is great, but it doesn't work 100% of the time.
  • Eufy can't detect people at night, people walk by and they are detected as motion, so I have it recording every motion, and that is awful because it also records cars' headlights when they drive by. Tapo doesn't have probs with people at night. I'd say Tapo's AI is smarter.
  • Tapo can also distinguish cars and you can also set up a specific detection area for vehicles/people/pets/motion.
  • Can't "download" Tapo videos if you are not using the same network, but you can still watch and record the events. With Eufy you can just download and watch them later.
  • With Tapo you can control the playback speed, with Eufy you can only control the speed if you do continuous recording.
  • Eufy has a webportal to watch the feed on a web browser. It is very basic but better than nothing.

$22.99 at its own retail store. op clearly said save $3. and this jumped to frontpage with only 2 replies an hr ago. how did it happen?
So far this is a "Popular" deal. Not a true "Front Page" deal.
SD has let popular deals be shown on the main page with an orange tab. True FP deals get a FP Deal Editor's post put in at the top that is backdated to the same time the OP posted which is a weird thing to do. Then have a blue tab and say Front Page Deal when you click into the deal. I know it seems like semantics but according to SD that is the difference.
EEK!
So, at the time I posted this, it has been deemed "Popular" by the SD algorithm, based on upvotes, and the same will happen if/when it gets enough attention/upvotes to get promoted to (true) FP. There is no set number of upvotes we can go by either. It's kind of like Amazon and their price fluctuations, based on browsing and sales stats per product. SECRET SAUCE.

I'm not sure if coupon is still available? Still a solid deal even without the coupon.
