There are 5 sizes left but I recommend only the one piece rod sets, the 25 - 5ft ultra light, if you need an ultra light, the 30 - 6ft medium for crappie/bass, or the 40 - 7ft medium for bass+.

I did break one of their rods in a way that seemed premature and surprising, but I just figured Amazon beat it up in shipping before it got to me. 1 year warranty though, so they should make it right. 16 years ago they were good....now they are not good. bean counters cheaped them up!

We have several President reels that we use for light trolling and general bait fishing. Last summer we found a President reel and 13 fishing rod that had been submerged for (our best guess) a few months. Took that rod and reel home and cleaned it up. It works very well.

The reels are very good. I ordered two combos for gifts.

I bought the 4000 reel for $30 a few years back at a promotion. It was nice while it lasted, but it couldn't stand salt water. I used it for only 1.5 season. The chrome / paint on the handle would peel off and later the reel body developed a crack and ultimately broke at the neck.

How? I've had one of the bass pro xt things that was on sale for a few years, it gets reasonably abused with no issues. It's kind of hard to mess up a spinning reel.

It's got to be the rod. These reels are one of the best for the money. Take a salmon charter in AK and you will see presidential on ugly sticks very often just for being bullet proof and cost effective
