Your 4k tv upscales everything to 4k . No need for the player to do that. Your TV knows how to upscale best and properly for it's hardware.
Really? Our DVDs look pretty crappy on our Sony 85" that was highly reviewed. 😂 Maybe that's simply all you'll get out of DVDs. I thought it was my XBSX that just didn't convert it well.
If I don't need to invest in a standalone player to get better video, that'd be great. Still...leaves me disappointed in conversion ability!

I don't like that this goes on sale because people are buying the wrong one. The 420 is far superior. This one should be taken off the market. Useless.

Any real reason to get this if I already have a PS5?

PlayStation 5 (PS5) does not support HDR10+ or Dolby Vision, which are premium HDR formats that can improve picture quality.

Gave you a provisional like.

DV versus HDR on streaming is identically bad.

On physical media at fully uncompressed everything, with a mid to high end tv, the difference is dolby vision is about 10 percent "better". It's a matter of the details in the bright areas. It's not a jump out a window if you don't have it, but it's better....ish.
Unfortunately it's not that simple, that percentage can vary widely and often does.
In basic terms It comes down to how well each got a transfer then how well HDR is tone mapped.
Disney transfers often are a good example of this.

Reviews look pretty good and this is a solid price to be able to play all the things I still have on physical media without converting them all. Just ordered.

I'm surprised no one mentioned all the Chinese or Japanese writing on the back of the unit and the remote. I mean is this unit even meant for the US?

Unfortunately this does not include their HCX and Optimizer processing but it does support DV.

This is not new.. The UB-820 is the gold standard of 4k Players.

This is the 420/450.
Um, no. This is not a "gold standard".

If you need a player still in production, the DP-UB9000 is way better than the ones listed. If you can source one on the secondary market, either the Oppo UDP-203 or the UDP-205 still are the best players you can buy.

Ohhhh.. you're right. I think "most" have the ub-820 just from a price point, though. I personally tend to rip my disks and run from a plex server. So.. I rarely use the player.
