Starbucks barista here. We didn't meet our quality goals. They're trying to boost sales by running promos and cutting labor hours. So yes, we will be super busy on promo days but we also won't have as many people. When we don't push out drinks fast enough people get mad and then we get bad customer connection scores which further cuts labor and further raises the wait times. It's not a viable business model at all. I've worked for the company for about 10 years and it's not what it used to be.

I was thinking the same thing, since they've been adding promos more frequently and the above on a Tuesday (which is unusual)! Ironically, just today, they announced a 4% drop nationally and a 6% overall drop globally. They're in the "red" for the first time since during the pandemic. Considering that they have a gazillion locations, this could spell trouble!....but "about to go under" is a bit drastic at this point!
BTW, while the BOGO and 50% promos are certainly worth a visit, the 4 for $20 is really nothing special and is ill-contrived!

May as well make the it a permanent happy hour promo. 50% maybe 2-6 pm every day.

This is unusual, as these promotions are typically available on Thursdays or Fridays.

Starbucks is a bank that sells coffee. Gift card and app balances could float them for years.

Maybe yes, maybe no. Especially considering how extremely saturated they are! "Balances" on apps and gift cards last just so long in this declining economy. People are tightening their belts considerably these days, and frequent visits to overpriced Starbucks are a thing of the past for many people. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if they start closing some underperforming locations in the near future.

July 4th is on Thursday, I guess they didn't want to run this promo then or day after, so they settles for Tuesday

Coffee pricing is getting weird in general. The typical Starbucks drink I have is 5.5 bucks, most of the local coffee shops charge 6-8 dollars. This is the SF bay area for reference.
