Oh well. Good call on the coupon, though. I almost forgot about those.
Also separate thought: Dell part numbers continue to baffle me. My 3x S2721QS are IPS. Why are these VA? Oh Dell…

The flicker issue occurs when the average colors displayed (not backlight!) on the screen is just about 50% darker than grey (closer to black) and 50% lighter than pure grey (closer to white). My hypothesis is that it's a bug in the programming that is intended and works on Windows, but Mac does it's own thing (not necessarily wrong, but the way the data is packaged is not what the monitor software is expecting, so it flickers to try to display it properly).
If you are using on Windows in SDR, it's hard to beat this monitor. Every bit as good as my IPS monitors in the same price range. HDR is a little finnicky though because WIndows' HDR implementation is trash.
Unfortunately, for Mac, this is probably not the best monitor for your workflow unless you do a lot of spreadsheets/web browsing in light mode. The second you watch a video, play a game with greys, or edit videos that shift you will likely encounter occasional flicker.

For me turning the Dell monitor on first, then the computer, last the second monitor helps. If the Dell starts to do the blink thing turning it off for a long moment and then turning the monitor back on generally solves it. Occasionally I have to pull the power cord to fully power cycle it.
I've been through multiple DisplayPort and HDMI cables, it sounds like some nVidia drivers are perhaps more prone to it. Ultimately I just chose to live with having issues once or twice a week. I found several people online who had the same issue with the same model monitor, some of whom beat their heads against Dell customer service trying to get it solved without resolution.

Shows a more extreme version of what I see - mine flashes very slowly, and only on the Dell monitor. Turning off DCC/DI in the settings is supposed to help/fix it with the Mac.
It's an otherwise good monitor, hard to beat the performance vs price and I've been generally happy with it for the 3+ years(Dell says my warranty expired Nov 2022) I've had it. But if it died tomorrow, I would replace it with a different model.
