Do yourself a favor and get magnetic shims. They make it so much easier to use.

Also, get a 5/8 bolt and nut. Drill a 5/8 hole in the center of a small square of 3/4 plywood. When you need to set up a specific dado thickness, stack the cutters and shims on the bolt and tighten the nut. Then use your calipers to dial in the measurement. It's much easier than adjusting thickness on the saw itself. Woodpeckers had one as a one-time tool for $50, but a nut and bolt was less than a dollar.

I purchased the 8" set a number of years ago and have used it quite a bit (kitchen, house interior, ...) It is a very nice dado setup. (I think I paid $100-110 at the time). The only thing that caught me off guard is now clearly specified in the note, "Designed to cut undersized to accommodate "nominal thickness-inch plywood." So if you set up for 3/4", it is not actually 3/4" but already adjusted for the plywood thickness (maybe 23/32" or a bit less). That being said, you can use the spacers provided, or use the 3/32 chipper in place of 1/16" and get dialed in. I would buy this again.

I'd also add that a 6" dado would likely be less stress on the motor and potentially perform better than the 8" set. I also have a job site saw and went with the 6" version for this reason. The dados I cut are always under an inch in depth. I've never felt like I gave up anything by going with the smaller set.
The Ridgid manual does specify for a 6" dado. I have no problem using the Oshlun 6" dado set and like many others, sorter bites.

I have the 8" purchased in 2022. Works great without uneven ridges. I had the Mibro set first because I didn't think it'd be much difference, but the Mibro set always left uneven cuts.

I can't think of why I'd need an 8" over a 6" but would I be right that the increased tooth count results in a cleaner cut?

Interesting. In the DeWalt radial arm saw community we typically advise 8" over 6" (on 1HP+ saws rated for 10" single blade) because of the flywheel effect. That is, as long as you don't mind that it can take a moment longer for the saw to accelerate and stop. But those saws are old, beastly, direct-drive induction motors, whereas most people here are likely using either portable table saws (normally underpowered direct-drive universal motors), or stationary table saw (normally belt-drive induction).

Probably depends on how well your saw's motor handles load.

Have a DeWALT job site portable, anyone run an 8 inch on this? Or is 6 the most it can handle?

Yes, I do. I've ran it on the Ridgid R4513 & Dewalt DWE7491RS table saws with good results on both.

I have this and it's pretty good. My biggest complaint is that the arbor hole for the shims is too small so they always get stuck on the arbor threads (could just be my set). My other complaint is that the end cutters have beveled teeth so that they don't leave a perfectly flat surface, but I think many dado stacks are like that.

Overall, I'd buy this again on sale. Dado stacks are expensive and I don't use one THAT often.
Same problem with Dewalt dado. Thought it was just me...

I have had this for a few years. Use it on my contractors rigid table saw. It's been great. Cuts really nicely despite my saw not having all that much power.

Guess it depends on the motor?

Mine is a 15A DWE749 with the RS (rolling stand) and I've never had a problem with 10" dados.

So if your motor is 15A as well, should be plenty of power to spin these things up and chew through wood.
