It does not measure DC current via clamp. So, forget about automotive or anything with 12V battery charging.

When it comes to electrical testing, I have a hard time trusting unknown brands like this one. I'd much rather spend a little (or a lot) more on a known brand like Klein, Fluke, Extech, etc.

That no-name brand may be fine, but I'd rather pay a bit more and know it's accurate when it comes to my own personal health and safety.

I think he was replying to a post with a link to a no name brand and not intending to implicate the Klein from this deal.

This is a nice kit if you don't think you need to read dc current though.

I've got the CL800 in their clamp meter lineup. I wish it had the CL390's inverse easy-to-read screen but otherwise it's a good unit. CL390 is the 'lower end' meter that can do DC current (up to 400A), but it doesn't support low impedance voltage testing like the CL800.

Their 'Selection guide' showing all these meters is on their site, link: https://data.kleintools.com/sites...e_RevE.pdf

On top of what the other comments are mentioning about DC, the meter will not measure inrush amps. Useless if you want to use this for hvac. Pass on this, there are much better options.

Yes, there is. You don't need the "kit" junk thrown in with this.
Oh okay then, how about some examples?

A splitter (for measuring AC amperage) and receptacle tester are hardly junk, and are actually quite useful if you don't already have them.

As low as $48 new on eBay, from reputable sellers. Even Home Depot has these on clearance. . Maybe there's an updated model coming out?

And that meter does DC current, inrush... unlike the Kline. I have been using that clamp meter for two years and it works great. The only downside is small current accuracy given the lowest setting is 60 amp. Paid a lot less from the x press web site...

No name brand? It says Klein right in the post.

A common failure of all air conditioners are bad capacitors. Unfortunately, this meter does can not measure capacitance.
For me, that is a huge miss.
For twelve bucks more, get the Klein CL700. It offers capacitance, temperature, and TRMS. It's a better buy.
