If you haven't ordered through the Samsung store app before then login there and add to cart. You may get an additional $50 discount. Once it's added to cart from the app, you can check out from PC to take advantage of CB offers elsewhere.

I own the Q990D, and while it's amazing, it's main feature is 120 Hz. The sound quality is basically identical.

If you want 4k 120hz content, you would have to go Apple > TV, soundbar > TV (arc/eArc)
You meant Apple > tv > soundbar ( arc/earc)

Sure, that's another way to say the same thing I did.

My understanding is Samsung tvs don't support Dolby. So this " matching" sound system can't be fully utilized with their own tv? Is that right?

I have a 7 year old 5.1 set that sounded great. It finally died…. Looking to purchase this one to replace it. I'm hoping it would be a night and day difference…. Thoughts?

It depends on your old system. If it was a system in a box with tiny speakers and small sub, this bar will be a substantial upgrade, but if you had an entry level home theater system (receiver and component speakers), the upgrade might be modest or insignificant depending on how well the old system was calibrated.

Does anyone know if a deal close to this will be available to the masses on prime day or otherwise? Sadly only have an edu email and not an active student so I can't verify via ID.me

Edit: signing up with my .edu email and then clicking the education store allowed me to place the order.

Has anyone attempted to add Chromecast/Google features? I often send music to my current system and see this only has apple and Alexa.

If you mean Dolby Vision, then yes. Samsung tv's don't support it regardless of what is connected. As for Dolby Atmos, Samsung tv's do support it either through the streaming apps or passthrough to the soundbar (eARC)

This soundbar will passthrough Dolby Vision if you connect for example an AppleTV to directly to the soundbar and then pass video through the soundbar to a Dolby Vision capable TV. Even lower B and C model Samsung soundbars will do that in my experience.

I believe these bars can passthrough Dolby Vision even though it's not advertised as such (for obvious reasons). You will be limited to 4k @ 60hz though unless you opt for the latest 990d.

How do you mount the soundbar? I found some mounts online, wondering if tv above the speaker will block the up firing sound from soundbar. Samsung recommends mounting 2 inches below tv, will that be enough? My TV is wallmounted but not flush, sits 6inches from the wall, hence my concern.

Do I need any special sort of HDMI cables for this or will $5 ones work?

Any HDMI 2.1 cable will work. Amazon Basics has 6' 2.1 cables for around $9. The soundbar comes with a HDMI cable (probably 2.0) that you can use to run to eArc on your TV. From your TV to your devices, use 2.1 cables so you can get 4k 120Hz.
