#1: resale value don't mean much if not intend to sell. Mario 3D All Star, OG Forza Horizon Pokemon Heart Gold for DS and Kirby Planet Robobot for 3DS are my treasure. Yeah it worth $ but am I gonna sell it? No lol. Not for sale even if someone offers me $1000.
#2: some physical games just DO NOT hold value well compared to common popular games. Examples re: Nintendo, Lego Brawl, Splatoon 2, Dance 2019, FIFA 18, Mario Rabbiz Kingdom, Pokemon snap, genesis collection, 1-2 switch, Sonic mania, MK 11, and so on.
Plus it is completely subjective to the buyers that get to determine the value not the seller. Game rental still exist and there gameplay available in YouTube to help their decision to either buy or not.
#3: Personally, I rent games. Not buy unless I really love it. I save so much $$$ from buying a wrong games and I don't have to worry about losing more $ and time after purchase.
#4: buyers and trade in value are inevitably cheap these days. GameStop, Best Buy, Mom and Pop Shop, OfferUp, Mercari, eBay buyers.
Honorable Mention: case point—Sonic Mania is currently on sale for $8 digitally while physical version is still at $19.99. Resell the physical version for $10 after beating the game? Sure have at it. Better not buy it again in the future cuz if rebuy again then the intention to resell would be dumb and wasteful.

$8 for Sonic Mania. Has high replay value IMO and it cost next to nothing.
