Any ideas what wattage the GPU is running at?

Overall, if this hits all the specs I'm looking for, is there any reason to caution against buying this?

I got the 2021 HP Omen, and half the track pad went dead at 6 months. If you only use a mouse, this will be fine. The track pad drives me nuts, though, and I used to work for HP. By far the worst experience I have had with all the HP laptops (1 new laptop every 2 to 3 years for work and the odd purchase for home).

Edit: charging brick is 230, so this will not have a higher wattage GPU.

The charger is heavy, the laptop is heavy, the fans can be pretty loud, also when doing intensive computing. If you want something portable, this is not it.

Check your Amex offers too, there might be $60 off $699.

Check this out too if you have Microcenter nearby, could be a better deal for some especially with ymmv $100 off coupon: https://www.microcenter.com/produ...ica-silver

This has an HS CPU which pulls at most 54 watts. There's no reason to believe this doesn't have a 115 watt GPU which is essentially the full tgp for the 4070, as the 4060 and 4070 are actually voltage limited to around 100 watts in real-world power draw.

Being a chonky Omen, obviously not looking to save any weight or worry about cooling, and a 230 watt charging brick - I'm leaning towards it being a 115 watt 4070, which is really the max tgp for the 4070 mobile.

As far as caution against buying it, I can't say that I have had any problems with my lower-end HP Pavilion Gaming series laptop in 4 years of ownership. Functionally it works like the day I bought it, aside from the enter key in the ten-key numpad area having an issue with the spring - despite relatively little use. It still works but you can tell something isn't right there. I would open up and clean that laptop once a year, and once after two years I repasted the heatsink because I wanted to. I didn't seem to make any difference in temps so I can't say it was needed. Otherwise, reliability was excellent.

However, I would go to a brick and mortar store and check out this chassis in person. I was looking at the same chassis (with an intel CPU) a few months back and it was just a big laptop and I wasn't super happy with the overall keyboard layout.

There are two TDPs I have seen for 4070 in laptops: 115w and 140w.

This happened to me. I just typed FN/F11 to turn it off and on again. Works now. If that doesn't work, try going to the settings and click "default."

140w is just marketing jargon. Nvidia has voltage limited the 4060 and 4070 so that 100 watts is the actual performance ceiling. Any higher wattage is just wasting energy with no performance increase.
