I'm on the fence not sure if I'll ever need it. I still on planning building a shed and finishing my basement. Will this come in handy?

Does this go over 48" to fit a full sheet of plywood?

According to a Q&A:

The jaw clamping size is 0"-41".
These are interesting, but I'm struggling to imagine what I'd use them for PERSONALLY that regular saw horses + regular face clamps wouldn't work on, especially if they can't clamp a full sheet.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank ScottB4836

This is a pretty good list of things one guy has used his JawHorse (brand name version of this "clone") to do.

FWIW, I own this item, and it's *very* heavy duty and easily up to the rigors of a construction site. No DIY user will be able to break it without extreme effort and/or negligence.

So folks are voting "not a good price" on this deal? Confused Is there a better, cheaper option? The similar Jawhorse [lowes.com] is $249 at Lowe's.

Deal breaker for me then. No wonder why they're cheap but then again Lowe's has same style one for $249 so it's a good deal just not what I needed it for.

This style of portable, standalone clamping vise is fantastic and super useful. I actually have 2 of them, an actual Jawhorse and a Sears Craftsman clone no doubt made by the same OEM as this. I actually use the clone more because it's a bit smaller and more convenient.

To be clear, I'm not saying they're without use, just that I don't see anything they'd additionally bring for me, in terms of the types of work I do and the clamps/supports I already own. They look like a quality product and $99 seems like a great price if they're what someone needs.

And to be fair, I already own a pair of rockwell jawstands, which have been *immensely* useful, but capable of fairly different functionality. If I didn't have those, maybe these would have more appeal for me.

This is one of those tools that I used a lot when I first got it, but now it collects dust while my regular saw horses see daily use.

I read the uses... and most of them can be done with just standard bought or DIYed saw horses. The only thing this seems to add is a heavy base, and a built in clamp.

Like using this to clamp a wood mast for a tarp tend to somehow "secure" tools under at a job site? How exactly is using $200 of tools as a tarp tent frame more "secure" than just throwing a tarp over the tools, or the 5min to tack together a couple scrap 2x4s instead?

For home shop, I can't imagine these heavy beasts being more convenient to scuttle around the shop and set up every time, than having a normal permanent workbench.

Think the author was using this as an all in one clamp situation wherein he temp clamped posts and uprighted them to tent material, equipment, etc. I'd imagine since the base is a wide tripod it is much sturdier and less prone to getting blown away. Again yeah for 200$ bucks (on sale) for a pair, probably not the best display of use but I'd imagine having a pair is way handier than having just one. Two and you open the possibility of securing a longer objects down pretty damn good. Me and most casual users on the other hand with just one, maybe not as easy to imagine uses.
I was thinking on picking one up to help as a 'third hand' during fencing. I guess any outdoors project like this could have a pretty good use case, 4x4's, 6x6's, long 2x12 fascia boards perhaps? Objects that might be awkward to carry to begin with, where the ability to step down to clamp an object would help during a repetitive workflow. Can't really complain for 80$ to be fair, looks like it'll last a long while and survive a construction environment.
