I got the intel 14th gen i9 this week from Microcetner. This is an insane computer. Performance of the Ryzen 9 and i9 are pretty close, so the deciding factor to me was the ability to have Thunderbolt compatibility with the intel one. Either one is a monster of a PC.

Finally the Ryzen 7845s and 7945s are coming out enmasse instead of those barn burner Intel 13900/14900 CPUs that overheat and drain your batteries like crazy.

They've been out for some months now, though.

I saw a thumbs down on this same build for $400 less with the 4080 instead of the 4090. Why the dislike on that one do you think?

I'm also shopping for a laptop for the first time in a very long time. Can you all give your thoughts on this vs the Alienware x16 R2 that is similarly speced for similar money?

Alienware? Hit or miss but I'd go with the Legion over the Alienware.

This thing looks like a beast. I have last year's model with the 3080 and it's great. Kind of tempted, but I have a million plugins for music that are a pain to install from scratch. I think I'll wait anothe year to avoid that pain. Those specs are crazy though.

Not a bad deal. It seem like the ram & hd is upgradable.

Only wish it has touch screen options.

Or it's not possible right now because 4090 generate to much heat that would cause issue with responsiveness touch input.

MacBook max killer is very simple a bad ass GPU like 4090 with dual touch screen. At around $2500, Is it that hard???

ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 5 Intel (16") - is closet thing Ienovo have. 4080ti with touch for $2500 but it's discontinued

I agree, I would rather buy legion over Alienware if it's an Alienware made in China. Since Dell transition to other countries like Vietnam, Korea, India, Taiwan, and other countries it has improved. Not sure why it was QC has such a bad rep in China.
X1 Extreme G5 was the last generation for this model and it has 12th gen intel cpu and RTX 3xxx. If you want RTX 4xxx in this package, you have to look for P1 model which is still available both with ADA and RTX graphics.

However I would not recommend X1 Extreme for playing games - I have G5 model with 12th intel and 3070ti, which was second from the top and has vapor chamber cooling - and this is a hot and noisy laptop when trying to game. But if you connect 230W power supply, it can game (if you don't mind the noise and temps). IMHO - you will get much better value with Legion laptops.
