Does this display ads on it? My echo show 5 spends 50% of the time just displaying Amazon ads on it. It is practically useless as an actual clock. I changed the language to Canadian etc to try and stop it but it still plays a ton of them. I would even pay to make them stop at this point.

this seems stupidly overpriced, even at $45, although it's improved in all ways from the previous one, seems like. but an echo dot is like, $25 right now, so unless a tiny screen makes a huge difference, i would just get a dot. or wait for a refurb from woot (former trade-ins) on the cheap

Yeah but most of the bad reviews are from dumb people:

One person said it's missing a temperature sensor and gave it 3/5 stars even though it says it doesn't have one.
Another said "Volume increases automatically during commercials" and gave it 1/5 stars which isn't a function of the device but whatever streaming service they are using.
Another gave it 3/5 and complained you can't view your home cameras even though it explicitly states thats not a feature.
Another said "The clock disappears when playing music" and gave it 3/5 stars then in the review said the clock is too small to read even though Amazons photos even show what it looks like when playing music.
Another gave it 1/5 stars because it doesn't have line out even though it says in the description it doesn't.

The people reviewing this are just too dumb to own it and should have fully read the products description before buying it. I'm sad Amazon took away the ability to comment on peoples reviews.

Personally if I didn't already have a Echo Show 5 in my bedroom as my alarm clock I'd be buying this.

I thought about it, but it doesn't have temperature readings. For a device at $80 msrp, they should have it.

... it really is too soon to look at USER reviews. When I looked an hour ago, it only had 10 user reviews. This product isn't in the hands of Reviewers yet. But it will be in a week or 2. I saw some youtube review on it, and the guy doesn't even own this product, just went by the photos of product from Amazon's site.

I also was going to post what you posted, but then I saw only 10 user reviews and decided not to post on that topic. I'm not going to buy this device, too new, and we all know the price will drop by Prime Day in november.

Maybe a better deal will be available next week during prime days?

This is not exactly correct. The item page notes that device has a thermostat. Additionally, you are referring to a a 'sport' smart alarm clock.
I think the thermostat icon you are talking about is this device can use routine to turn ON/OFF Alexa compatible smart home thermostat. That has nothing to do with this device having a built-in temperature sensor. And nothing in the spec or product page talk about this device has a built-in temperature sensor.

I thought that was just mine. Started in the last couple of weeks. So this is a thing?
I had a non-clock version of the echo dot stop responding to Alexa for a few days. It would work after power cycle, but stop working again later. I just put it into reset mode by holding the circle button and redoing setup in the app. Works fine now.

Wonder if they'll suffer from the same issue the echo dot w/ clock issue others and myself have had where the blue greenish light ring just keeps spinning, or the alarm doesn't work or goes off 20 or so minutes late. My other same echo shows the time but when saying Alexa it doesn't go into listen mode and needs to be unplugged to work correctly but the issue happens hours later again
Our echo dot with clock has been terrible. Every couple of days it just doesn't respond to anything and needs power cycled. Grabbed this Spot to try out.

Still using mine too in the bathroom. Great as a bluetooth speaker listening to music or news when I get ready in the morning.

I don't have other issues that you mentioned with my echo dot but the green spinning ring means you have a notification waiting to be announced. All I do is say "Alexa, delete the notification" because I already know what the notification is (get it on my phone thru alexa app). It says "notification deleted" and the green ring disappears. Or you can say "Alexa, what's the notification?" It will announce it and the ring will disappear.

Bedside, nah. But if it can show progress of timers, I might get one for the kitchen.
What's the cheapest echo device that does that reliably?
I like my Echo Wall Clock to see my timers.

I ordered two (did it separately) and used the option to return my old echo show 5" units from 2021. I got $20 off the 1st and 20% off. The second only gave me the $20 off, but still not a bad deal.
