Does this display ads on it? My echo show 5 spends 50% of the time just displaying Amazon ads on it. It is practically useless as an actual clock. I changed the language to Canadian etc to try and stop it but it still plays a ton of them. I would even pay to make them stop at this point.

this seems stupidly overpriced, even at $45, although it's improved in all ways from the previous one, seems like. but an echo dot is like, $25 right now, so unless a tiny screen makes a huge difference, i would just get a dot. or wait for a refurb from woot (former trade-ins) on the cheap

Yeah but most of the bad reviews are from dumb people:

One person said it's missing a temperature sensor and gave it 3/5 stars even though it says it doesn't have one.
Another said "Volume increases automatically during commercials" and gave it 1/5 stars which isn't a function of the device but whatever streaming service they are using.
Another gave it 3/5 and complained you can't view your home cameras even though it explicitly states thats not a feature.
Another said "The clock disappears when playing music" and gave it 3/5 stars then in the review said the clock is too small to read even though Amazons photos even show what it looks like when playing music.
Another gave it 1/5 stars because it doesn't have line out even though it says in the description it doesn't.

The people reviewing this are just too dumb to own it and should have fully read the products description before buying it. I'm sad Amazon took away the ability to comment on peoples reviews.

Personally if I didn't already have a Echo Show 5 in my bedroom as my alarm clock I'd be buying this.

Anyone tried this new model yet? My Echo Show 5 is like an old friend who needs a hearing aid. I have to yell at it to get a response!
Does your old friend also constantly try to sell you stuff?

i mean, some of those complaints are valid, whether or not it's in the product description.
poop is still poop, no matter what color it is (not saying this device is poop. just an analogy)

You can't change the language Canadian because Canadian isn't a language. Maybe that's your problem 🤷🏽 ♂️

This product makes zero sense. An alarm clock needs a battery incase of power issues, and now you want to add internet issues into the mix? Your morning alarm is now dependent on your power AND internet lol. I'll keep using my phones app. Plus who wants anything lighted that can send notifications or alerts in their bedroom!

Agreed. Used to enjoy mine as a bedside alarm clock and photo slide show but now it spews ads 24/7 and just last night I finally decided to ditch it and replace it with an Apple speaker instead.

If it's any help for people, I bought one of these to replace an echo dot with clock that died, and it's basically that with a better screen that also shows alarm times. I had bought an echo show 5 a couple days before this released and am sending it back because the screen is too crowded with crap even after disabling all of the screens I didn't want. For a bedside alarm clock this is perfect while it's on sale (currently cheaper than the dot with clock since that isn't on sale).

I have an echo 5th gen. As soon as I added a temperature routine - turn on smart plug at 76 degrees... the echo became very unstable. It only goes offline several times per day and has to be manually reset. I contacted Amazon and they are aware of the problem and working on a fix. Been a week. Echo is mostly useless. Oh and it doesn't seem to like female voices. My wife can give her the exact command I do, and nothing. I repeat it and it's done.

Ours came yesterday, and I plugged it in and set it up. The Alexa app is a PITA at times, on any given day. Yesterday, after I set up the new Spot, all my devices were gone from the app. I googled to find out that that does happen, but they reappear eventually--and they did, about ten minutes later. Most of the setup is done in the app, but there are some controls on the Spot. I set two alarms for this morning, but my husband got up before his alarm, so I turned that one off. Mine went off, but the volume was a little too low. I still had my old alarm clock radio plugged in, just in case, and I woke up to that one. I'll just have to play with things until they're right for us. I played some music on it, then stopped it, but it took several minutes for the image of the album cover to go away and for the device to come back to just being a clock.
Also, no ads--and I hope it stays that way!

Change to screen rotation. Still get less intrusive ads. Amazon ads for smart devices, cameras, doorbells are going down to garbage. No longer a best buy even on deals.
If you dig into the settings, you can turn off notifications for things. I have everything but weather turned off. The device will show the weather after being awakened for about a minute, then go back to being a clock.

Changed the language to Canadian? Alexa says "aye" after speaking?

There are some reviews on this on YouTube now and so far everyone is reporting no ads yet... who knows how long it will stay that way though. The screen is pretty small so it would be extra terrible if they tried to run ads on it.

Also, change to nighttime mode for 23:59 hours per day. It doesn't show crap in nighttime mode but still shows doorbell and clock.
