the $99 dollar clearance someone reported is probably the tail end of a store that doesnt sell much lawn equipment or people prefer the other brands like dewalt, milwaukee, ryobi.
Rigid is like the mid grade, Home Depot "most associated" brand and with all these power tool packages with batteries, stores will progressively lower the price in line with the expected expiration of the batteries inside.
The batteries ship with half charge (e.g. 2 of 4 bars), and within a few years, they go to zero and cannot be charged in the standard charger, then they are returned. There are ways to jump start a zero'd battery but most people arent going to do that or even know you can do that.
