$799 at Apple EDU if you consider $100 GC
Must not be selling like they projected. Keep going down, and I'll purchase.
It is for those who wish to stay in Apple Ecosystem . That GC can be used to buy another Apple product or service

A gift card isn't cash.

If you were already planning to get the $119 Apple Pencil Pro, that $100 GC would bring it down to just $19 on something you'd get anyway to use with this new iPad. That's just one example; definitely worth it for a lot of users.

The gift card can be immediately and securely converted to cash by selling it to a third party marketplace company. While Apple GC pricing is currently depressed by so many others doing this right now during Apple's sale, it still works out slightly better than Sam's. Immediate guaranteed cash value is $79.50 (was higher a few weeks ago, and will likely improve after end of Apple's promo as holidays approach).

Additionally, for people going the Apple direct route, they could pre-purchase Apple gift cards from the same marketplace (currently @ 7.9% discount) to pay for their purchase on Apple.com.

Still rocking my iPad Pro 2018 11" but I wish there was a sale on the bigger models to make me upgrade. Probably not much difference between this and the 2018 pro to the average user apart from the display. iPad is seriously hampered by iPad OS.

Exactly this. For the same reason I'm still using the 2017 Pro 10.5" instead of getting a new 11". iPad OS 17 is the last one Apple is giving it, but I'll only upgrade to whatever 11" is out once this 10.5" no longer gets further Security updates AND most apps are no longer compatible on OS 17 and force you to update; I figure that'll still be another 2.5 to 3 years. This Pro still does everything I need it to 7 years later, is blazing fast and buttery smooth on its last OS, and has the beautiful laminated 120 Hz ProMotion display and quad speakers that even current base iPad and Air models lack.

Not much has convincingly changed enough yet to warrant a serious "I need it now" upgrade, due to still hampered iPad OS.

Seems to be sales on a lot of good items lately. So I don't know if this is just everyone thinking the economy is going to crash or just no one feeling the need to upgrade. I bet most people don't get that oled is better than retina displays.

I've had my Apple account severely limited by going to these "marketplaces".
I was able to get Apple to remove most of them but some others remain.

I have many iPads - it is entirely common for newly released iPad models to see nice discounts early. I've picked up two iPad Pros and an Air in the past shortly after release on deals. This isn't abnormal in any way.
