You should get the 40mm. Yes the 44mm has almost half more battery but trade ins *don't* care about the size. A Watch7 that is 40mm will trade at the same value as a 44mm (at Samsung).
Personally just upgrading my 4 to the 7 & jumping ship the moment another Classic comes out.
