SQ makes some of, if not the most, reliable machines on the market. They are often used in laundromats and other high use environments.

Speed Queen is one of the most reliable and strongest machines. However they aren't designed to be lookers or show-stoppers in a laundry room which is what a lot of the market is. Simple. Strong. Serviceable (should you need it)

I've heard they are THE most reliable USA built machines on the market.
They are commercial units built extremely well and if taken care of will outlast you.

I might be missing something but the dryer is 1K. Glad I stumble across this for when my current one dies. Would much rather have something that last compared to looking nice. I did get my current set from costco for around $600 delivered and installed though so not sure if it would be worth 3x but those deals are not always around.

It looks like it's from the 70s but that's the point

No excessive things to fail over time and it's got 20 year warranty; realistically you have to deal with smaller capacity compared to same price tier

For me, there are 2 ways to go:

1- Buy Speed Queen set for $$$ and never really worry about reliability or repair.

2- Buy a used set of LG/Maytag/Whirlpool/whatever for $3-400 and be prepared to just replace them with something similar in a few years when they break and cost more to fix than you paid.


I've done both and each has their own benefits.

I will never, ever buy (or recommend anyone else buy) any brand new laundry set other than SQ.

In the SAME exact boat. Moved during covid and wanted to replace old w/d with SQ, but prices were crazy and product impossible to find. Went with Maytag, but would love to replace with these.

Agreed. My Maytag washer turned 50 years old this year! Has only needed motor slide pads, belts and one water valve . Machines without screens are very easy to work on and parts are readily available.

My dryer was a freebie on CL and is at least 20 years old and has only needed a drum roller and belt and is also very easy to work on. I just wish I knew how easy they were to repair and kept my matching original Maytag dryer before picking up the freebie.

Heard of it? I thought Speed Queen was the most well know brand of washers and driers there was? LOL! I guess we all have blind spots, though.

It is if you never have to buy another set in your lifetime. I know a guy who has a set from the '60s that are still working. If a part breaks, he can easily fix it himself. I don't know if they're SQ, but the concept is the same.
