These are reasonably fair prices -- Valve (unlike other big companies like Amazon/Dell), actually REFURBISHES their refurbs. I got one, and it looked and ran literally brand new.

The cost for the storage upgrade between the tiers is extremely reasonable too -- unlike Apple's "rip off the consumer" pricing increases for each tier.

The unit comes with an excellent case, cleaning cloth, and AC adapter. Unlike Nintendo, which stopped including a charger with their handhelds years ago. And no one includes a case (let alone a really nice one).

Is the OLED model nicer? Sure. It's also more expensive. If you're not a serious video game player and just want something on the cheap, these aren't bad at all. You don't need to buy any accessories to get started with them (just games via their steam store).

ENTIRELY OPTIONAL accessories worth considering:
- extra microSD cards
- dbrand Killswitch case (case + cover + kickstand + thumbstick covers)
- headphones/speakers
- external controller (xbox, 8bitdo, playstation)
- mouse
- keyboard

Definitely cheaper to buy 64GB and upgrade to 1TB. I upgraded to Corsair MP600 Mini 1TB for like $72 (bought it on sale), keep an eye out for prime day

Can anyone tell me if I should consider buying the 64 GB model along with purchasing an internal SSD of 512 GB to 1 TB? Will the total cost be less than the 512 GB model?

Also, any suggestions on which third-party SSD works best for the Steam Deck and their costs, i am waiting to get one ssd in the prime day sale.

thanks😄

Excellent write up, but the bit about Nintendo not including AC adapters is incorrect. There was a brief period years ago where they tested not including adapters with some 3DS models but that didn't last long. The Switch and Switch Lite, which have been their only handhelds for over 7 years now, include them.

I did exactly this during the summer sale after being on the fence for a while. I already own a gaming laptop, and so far the deck has been surprising me with its performance. At the moment it has nearly replaced my laptop. I would say go for it!

If you want an anti glare screen, just buy an anti glare screen protector & it works extremely well. However keep in mind that due to how anti-glare etching works, your picture will not be as sharp.

Extra SD cards are a must for any large games. I'd add that a dock is awesome to have. We use it connected to the LG and it looks great!

Dbrand….. I'd avoid, personally. We have it thinking it would be more rugged for the teens (and they love the style), but the skin that comes with it is hard to keep down. The case pulls it up and Dbrand hasn't been rude necessarily, but they keep telling me what causes it and imply it is my fault rather than just cutting a slightly larger version so we aren't rubbing the tight plastic right on the edge of the design which pulls it up EVERY time. For the price, I figured they'd send a replacement skin by now because we've wrinkled it so bad. Maybe just our experience, but I'd stay away from Dbrand in this case. The case itself minus the skin is great. Not $75 great, but great.

Yessss! We replaced a TV connected living room gaming computer for the kids with a deck. They haven't complained so far. And my energy monitoring plug shows quite a decrease in power consumption so I'm not complaining!
