What should I know, bc I don't know and I'm really thinking about this offer.

I'm guessing not but can you cash in points (earned, not the free nights) for gift cards?

Also, do regular points (I know free nights do) expire?

One poster already commented, but there are times you can get really nice properties for the free nights promo. Example, intercontinental hotels in the US and around the world. Additionally, IHG has a lot of nice resorts and high end properties in Asia and Europe where you can utilize these free nights.

I've never tried but I would never trade my IHG points for gift cards. I think there's a way online on their portal to redeem for various retailers' gift cards, but why would you?

IHG has amazing redemption rates, despite the recent increases and having dynamic rewards pricing.

Think about it. Every 4th night free means 25% discount on redemptions of 4 nights or 8 nights or 12 nights. Who redeems for more nights than that, lol.

Regular points do not expire as long as you hold this card. Otherwise expire in 12 months.

Edit : they also have frequent promotions where you can buy points for cash for 50% off, with a higher maximum number of points eligible for purchase. I.e. 250k per year max points that can be purchased, versus 150k normally.

At B1G1 rates, you pay $2,500 for 500,000 points, which can get you stays worth $7,500 depending upon a lot of factors.

Granted, you don't need this credit card for some of this, but why wouldn't you make IHG your default hotel chain? Carrying this card makes sense then.

Who has done this and can say what credit agency I need to unlock for them to approve this credit card?

I'm tired of calling AFTER the fact and having to unfreeze...

ihg points are really diluted in value consider a holiday in express can easily cost 50k points per night...

Few years ago, with the old card, I was able to book free anniversary reward night at intercontinental, but it no longer works. Points are indeed worth less than they used to be too.

Free nights are infinitely better than free points, if you know, you know.

Also great card to hold indefinitely, cause you get platinum status (no free breakfast though) and other benefits. The two main benefits I like are the free anniversary night worth 40k points, and reserve 4 consecutive nights on rewards at the same property (in 1 stay) and get the 4th night free, thus paying only for the first 3 nights.
Thank you so much for this comment! I had a 3 night stay booked in Vegas next month, and didn't know about this benefit, so I was able to extend it 1 night for free! AWESOME! Now I just need to move my Cosmopolitan reservation around to get back 20K points Wink

True, but dollar rates for same hotel (HIE in your example) have really gone up too... try finding a HIE under $150 a night and you'll be lucky. Over weekends some of the HIE on the west coast go for over $200 a night!

Just finished using our free nights from a sign up a while back. For anyone interested, you'll sometimes need to book the free night far in advance and availability can be limited. While the value of the free night can be better than points, they can also be more restrictive to use. Most availability I've seen has been for HI or HIE, with the occasional hotel indigo or crown plaza available. If you are looking for IC, it might be better to get a promo with points and use those and pair with the IC ambassador program for a longer stay

Do you guys prefer the "xx nights free" instead of straight points? How does IHG give you the nights, is it just a certificate for 5 free nights on your account?

I have an old IHG personal card that is discontinued and I get a free anniversary night every year, I'm wondering if it's the same as that but 5 nights for the sign on bonus. Would the nights expire?

I think the free nights expire within 1 year, where as points won't expire. So, if you have plans to use 5 nights in a year at IHG hotel, this is worth.

if you book 4 nights you get one free. mentioned in * Offer Details

No this is subject to availability based off of the hotel in question and how popular the bookings are at the time so it may or may not be available.

Run of the mill hotel was like 80k points a night back when they had 140k bonus

Didn't like the card and chain at all

Not sure how this deal stacks up. Turned off by annual fee

I would rather take 150k reward than 5 free nights (60k point/ea), since where I want to book is only 25,000 points (SE Asia). I am waiting for this deal to expire. Hopefully, they offer 150->175k miles
