Apparently the buds can't be used without the Alexa app.

To use these buds you HAVE TO download and use the Alexa app.

The Alexa app *REQUIRES* that the buds be allowed to record your conversations and things happening in the world around you, and upload that to Amazon.

Amazon REQUIRES that the buds be able to record your location.

Amazon also REQUIRES that the buds be able to upload the names & phone numbers of ALL your phone contacts to Amazon.

If you click 'Deny' on the permission, the Alexa app boots you back to the opening screen and disconnects your earbuds until you give in to Amazon.

Wow is there really no way around this, you can just connect Bluetooth like normal buds?

Nope. How else do you think they're able to sell these so cheap, if they're not data-mining literally every word you're saying?

Ok but you still had to use an Amazon product to get them to work right? And you only use them only to watch tv? What if i want to use them on my samsung phone without the alexa app? or on my MacOs that has no Alexa app? Would they still work or are useless without the alexa app?

Spying buds? Yeah fuk that. If that's the case they should be paying us to use them. Buying a cheap 5 dollar earbuds would be better than that shit.

Not worth it.

Go to temu or AliExpress and just import it fuk Amazon spying then asking us to pay for it?

And MSRP is 100s? You stupid to buy this shit. With those conditions it's not even worth 35 dollars unless they mean negative 35 dollars

I don't want them connected to any assistant, Siri, Google, Microsoft, Facebook etc. I want them to pause, play, skip forward. And switch between, Windows, Android, iOS, MacOS, by just selecting connect without having to "repair" everytime i switch devices.

This isn't exactly correct. You CAN use these without the Alexa app. I had the first gen and the second gen, both I could use without the Alexa app! If you want the extra controls you just need the app. Example if you want to utilize the pass through then you need the app, but if you just want the noise cancellation then you're good. You hold your finger on the bud while in your ear and it will turn on/off.

Now that everyone has vented about being spied on…. Can anyone speak on the effectiveness of the noise cancellation?

had these and the first-gen model since they came out. the noise canceling is good the sound quality for music is not great. mostly used them for podcasts. the newer ones. Think the third-gen did away with noise canceling but seemed to pair between devices better and seamlessly. I can't comment on the third generation much only had them for like a week before switching to sony xm5's.
