It starts the day you are approved, though Chase officially gives 115 days from approval to hit spend.

If y'all travel much or have upcoming travel plans, buy up to $1,600 worth of 160K Hilton Honors points with at least Silver or higher tier status, and you get 160K extra points free. Today is the deadline I think.
There was a similar recent offer with IHG, though currently expired, it does come back every other month or so. Buy up to $2,500 worth of 250K points and get 250K points free - no status tier required. I did this recently, but alas didn't have a new card with signup bonus to churn on.
