CPU upgrades don't really add much for games. People say 8 cores and above make games feel smoother and I think thats true. But the stats like fps barely change. I have a 5900x for 3 years and its still a boss.

I decided to skip the 7000 series because with a new socket and DDR 5 I didn't want the headaches. In past months I've seen newer Asus boards catching fire and sketchy bios flaws. The AM4 socket was really smoothed out whern the 5000 series came around. This processor and a $150 x570/550 mobo are still a nice problem free spot in the market.

Recently upgraded to a 5700X3D from a 5600X. I am definitely seeing some performance uplift in select games. I don't plan to upgrade my Mobo/CPU again likely until AM6 drops so this was an inexpensive half step upgrade to get me through the next few years. Got it from AliExpress for $160 for anyone that wants to save a few bucks or doesn't have Prime. Recommend getting a decent cooler for this if you're coming from a 5600x as the TDP is increased.

I just got the 7900x3d for $278 on ebay. Should I return it and get the 7950x3d?? The only thing I do is game (not esports).

Zen 5 will have great power efficiency, and a claimed +16% IPC increase. It has no value for gaming over 7000X3D until 9000X3D comes out a bit later.

will this get much lower this year? I'm looking to upgraded my 5600U without breaking the bank. Current have 48gb of ram and a 12gb 3060 but still a little sluggish when multitasking.

I bought this a few months ago at $249 but had no time for a new build, so I am glad I returned and just bought it today at only $183. Now fingers crossed I can get a "temporary" gpu really cheap until this fall when the new ones arrive.
