A Soulslike (also spelled Souls-like) is a subgenre of action role-playing games known for high levels of difficulty and emphasis on environmental storytelling, typically in a dark fantasy setting. It had its origin in Demon's Souls and the Dark Souls series by FromSoftware, the themes and mechanics of which directly inspired several other games. Soulslike games developed by FromSoftware themselves have been specifically referred to as Soulsborne games, a portmanteau of Souls and Bloodborne. The "Soulslike" name has been adopted by a number of critics and developers.

anyone played this? i just got into soulslikes with Elden Ring and looking to build my wishlist out. got Sekiro and Dark Souls on there so far. would appreciate any reviews!
FromSoft (Dark Souls, Sekiro, Elden Ring developer) definitely makes my favorite souls games, but outside of them, it's one of the best soulslikes of recent years and is HEAVILY influenced by FromSoft. The visuals are stunning. The gameplay is more of a mix between Sekiro and Bloodborne. Very linear level design, not open world like Elden Ring. Lies of P is also on Xbox/PC game pass, if you think you could beat it in a month and don't care about owning it.
Other games to check out are Nioh and Nioh 2, which are probably the best soulslike games, and you can get them for really cheap nowadays.

It's my favorite souls game. You have to actually learn parries and dodges instead of just one for Dark Souls or parries for Sekiro. Even the hardcore Souls fans say From Software should steal their new gameplay mechanics like recharging your last heal and combining different parts of weapons to customize your playstyle.
It was very challenging. And unlike Souls games you can't summon another player to help you. This means you're on your own. Personally, I thought the story and design were fantastic. Plus it was easier to follow the story compared to FromSoft games.

You can summon a summon though. Helped me more than a few times

Soulslike games aren't exactly my favorite, but for some reason I really enjoyed this one. Parrying in this game is so satisfying. Played it on Gamepass, but not sure if I would've played it otherwise. This was one of the few games that I've played in new game/new game + etc over and over.

The best soulslike that isn't made by FromSoft. I hope fromsoft borrows some of the cool mechanics this game introduces to the formula
If you are an avid gamer (game more than 40 hours in a month), then you are probably best off just playing this on game pass

It's my third favorite souls game after Elden Ring and Dark Souls
This games like a hybrid of several From Soft ideas. The hub model is reminiscent of DemS, setting is clearly Bloodborne inspired as is part of the game structure, and while it does support dodges and parries, it does push you towards parries by endgame (last 3 bosses are incredibly difficult if you only dodge). I played it entirely on on the Steamdeck and would highly recommend it for this price.
I like what this game is trying to do. The parry feature is great and I think the concept is rather interesting. I am not a great souls-like player. Elden ring was my first and then I played DS3. This is not a hard game. I played pretty poorly and was able to hack and slash my way through the first 4 bosses and at that point, I kinda gave up. It's not easy like you can do whatever you want but it's also extremely forgiving. The enemy density is really low and the levels in general are very cool and moody but sparse and not very fun to play in. I think the concept is awesome and I did enjoy my time playing the game fore the first few hours but it's a DNF for me and I likely wont be back. Not engaging enough from a difficulty, design or plot standpoint.
im almost convinced that they have the source code of "from software" to have made this game. Its very similar but in its own right. Excellent game, had a lot of fun w it.
