I heard lots of Generac success stories right after Beryl.
Except for 1. They filled it with gas 2-3 years ago i"in preparation" but it failed. Sounds like user-error to me.

Depends on your needs if you want brief outage to live normally and assuming you have one of those future 'got you by the balls' all electric homes. CHoices are limited. Can be done with smaller gens but you gotta work arouund your high amperage needs.
Not good for SHTF stuff. Who's to say the high amperage stuff you want to power will exist AC's units get blown away, flooded, list goes on and on.
I have LP and live in flood prone and hurricane area. But for backup i use Inverter (240v) + 25 gallons of gasoline (with potential access to more, boats, cars) and with a LP house i can easy last > month. For ac i store emergency midea inverter ac's they ramp down letting the inverter rampdown and they have very light wattage use. I don't permanently mount the gen though (never know if wind or flood may take it out)
Anyways 1500 for inverter gen 7k watts, $25 interlock, $50 bucks raintite inlet, 70 bucks wire. On an all electric home you'd want hot plates, an LP camping shower heater and a cloths line =) and few other things.
The problem with large gas units and shtf is gas storage which is why these exists...can be done with inverter as well and thinking but all electric home you gotta make some compromises....
