No need to preheat the thermal carafe with the mochamaster, it stays piping hot

Metal and glass would mean far worse repair potential. Every piece of the moccamaster is designed to be modular so if it breaks you can swap out with a new piece. 30 year old moccamasters still chugging along isn't uncommon. I doubt that would be possible with metal or glass components.

Yes, the key is to preheat the carafe with hot tap water for a minute or so just prior to brewing. Been doing that for years with my Bunn Superfast thermal carafe drip machine.

I have an OXO coffee maker but find the coffee doesn't stay hot. Will this perform better?

Yes. I've had this for a year and if you use the supplied lid the coffee stays hot for a long time

I haven't ponied up for a Mochamaster yet but their support agrees with my suggestion, especially if not brewing a full pot-

I bought both the coffee maker and the km5 grinder last year and I do not regret the purchase, love both of them and use them daily

That's the old style thermal carafe, the new one doesn't need that, the one in this post is the new style

I haven't used the OXO, but I find if you swap out the regular top for the included sealed top right after the brew is done (which isn't hard to do because it brews FAST) it stays hot for a while.

If you don't brew full pot all the time, get the KBT model.

I have owned one of these for almost 10 years now. In my experience - the pot does a great job of keeping coffee warm a long time. When you pre-heat your pot, you can get even longer out of it.
Outside of that, this coffee maker does make the bset cup of drip coffee, period. Are there better methods? Yes. But
A. this thing makes coffee really close to any other method out there
B It makes it consistently

So that is where I will say this thing is worth every penny spent on it.

Yes, I think the thermodynamics of not pre-heating are a bit suspicious. Clearly some carafes cool more quickly at a given room temperature and air convection than others, but pre-heating any carafe will increase the initial temperature of the coffee (edit: in the carafe) and increase the amount of time before it cools below a subjective drinking temperature.

Our room temperature varies between 64F and 80F, and I'm not too fancy to microwave cold coffee, or to use Fahrenheit.

Was going to post the same thing. I brew 8 cups every morning, my wife and I are on completely different coffee schedules. She typically has her coffee (approximately 4 cups remaining) 2.5 to 3 hours after me and it is always hot.
