Metal and glass would mean far worse repair potential. Every piece of the moccamaster is designed to be modular so if it breaks you can swap out with a new piece. 30 year old moccamasters still chugging along isn't uncommon. I doubt that would be possible with metal or glass components.

Yes, the key is to preheat the carafe with hot tap water for a minute or so just prior to brewing. Been doing that for years with my Bunn Superfast thermal carafe drip machine.

Purchased one of these for my husband last year. Best coffee ever! I had no idea the machine could make such a difference since I'm not a big coffee drinker. He wanted a machine and I stay away from China made appliances as much as possible, so I landed on this one and say it was worth every penny. Oh and we regularly brew half a pot and it stays warm for a good 6 hrs.

The plastic reservoir would be better served being glass. I had one warp via the steam coming from the brewing basket. They want $100 to repair the plastic reservoir alone.

I have also had to replace several of the plastic basket lids and a reservoir lid at $20 each. It's really gouging for what's less than a quarter worth of plastic.

Metal and glass would only mean more shipping and material cost. In terms of repair potential....it really wouldn't change a thing. Apart from the reservoir, the parts are simple swap outs and like I mentioned b4 they charge $100 for reservoir replacement.

I have the Moccamaster 79112 KBT, which is $226.99 right now (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002S4DI2S/) and have loved it since the day I bought it. If it ever broke I would replace with the same model.

These Moccamaster's are tanks. Ours is at least 17 years old, daily coffee and still going strong.

The only thing I'd say is that the carafe it came with is pretty much junk. We use a Stanley thermos carafe instead, which fits the stage quite well.

Here's the difference between the KGBT and KBT. I like the ability to brew half a carafe and shorter form factor with the KBT, plus it's about $7 bucks cheaper.

Glass is more prone to cracking and breaking based on temperature fluctuations (they even warn of this with the glass lining for carafes). Glass would not be optimal for a surface that faces constant heating and cooling. There's a reason you don't see glass kettles. If you're replacing your parts that often not sure what the issue is but that level/frequency of repair is not common.
