Per perplexity.ai [perplexity.ai]:

Perrier Ultimate, also known as Maison Perrier, is not the same as traditional Perrier mineral water. It appears to be a different product that has caused some controversy and confusion among consumers.

According to a Reddit post, Maison Perrier sold at Costco is actually purified tap water with added electrolytes, rather than natural mineral water. This product is produced by Nestlé, which owns the Perrier brand. The packaging and branding have been criticized as potentially misleading, as consumers may assume it's the same as traditional Perrier mineral water.

It's important to note that this is different from the original Perrier Sparkling Mineral Water, which is still marketed as natural sparkling mineral water sourced from a spring in France.

The confusion stems from the fact that Nestlé has created this new "Maison Perrier" offshoot brand, which uses a different water source and production process compared to the original Perrier. While some argue this is a common practice in brand expansion, others feel it's misleading to consumers who associate the Perrier name with natural mineral water.

If you're looking for the traditional Perrier experience, you may want to specifically seek out products labeled as "Perrier Sparkling Natural Mineral Water" rather than "Maison Perrier" or "Perrier Ultimate".

FYI ... this is not the same as Perrier
The reason this was introduced is because 3 out of the 5 wells Perrier uses for the original Perrier were closed by the French government. Reason being is that do to severe flooding recently, 3 of the wells were contaminated with fecal matter from farm runoff. So now only 2 of the wells are in operation. This has significantly impacted supply.

So the original bottles are now only sold to higher end restaurants and such.

And the Maison version is regular water that they add minerals and carbonation to mimic the original.

So you can forget about seeing the glass bottles at places like Amazon, Walmart, Costco, etc. At least until the closed wells are cleared by the French government to reopen.

I've been drinking the Maison version, and I think it tastes pretty good. Very similar to the glass bottle version.

If you want the glass bottle, you will have to go to a fine restaurant or higher end establishment and buy single bottles which will be pricey.

Their website seems to indicate it's a sub-brand of Perrier, but it has a bunch of marketing buzzwords that don't really indicate the difference.

The fact that it says "natural electrolytes" makes me wonder if this has added salt to make it more like a Gatorade energy drink.

I looked up what I could find on this and it seems the main difference is a higher amount of carbonation vs the regular formula. I would hazard to guess that this is not ground sourced mineral water either.

This move isn't shocking to me as I've noticed that premium brands of sparkling water, such as this and san pelligrino, seem to actually finish much lower on blind taste tests compared to cheaper brands like polar. The panels are all typically in agreement and say when they are buying sparkling water, higher carbonation and mouthfeel are a preference. Whether you agree with this sentiment is another story all together.
