I haven't tried Tello but it works great on T-Mobile, which is the network Tello uses, I believe. Gets great 5G speeds where available, etc. It should work as well as any phone with that carrier.

Thanks! Was literally minutes away from buying this same model phone unlocked renewed on Amazon for $202.00. Thought to check SD before I pulled the trigger, and looks like I lucked out. About to buy this now. Did the math and INCLUDING two months of service AND tax , this will come out to only $156. Nice chunk of savings. Thanks again for confirming for me that I should be able to move back to Tello 2 months in.

Cool … also note that you can just activate for one month and it will still unlock after 60 days without buying another month. Lots of people have done that if your look through previous similar threads. Saves a few bucks if you don't actually need the service (unless you're actually porting your main number over or something like that where you need to keep it going.)

Ordered 8/16, received today 8/21. Mint condition, 100% battery, and Apple Care until January 24 2025.
I put in an unlock request 30 minutes after activation, and it is being processed.

Well this has turned into a nightmare. Ordered two phones one for my father and one for my aunt who both have SE2s.

First one was perfect full battery activated it did the 611611 unlock unlocks 10-21 great.

Second phone turned it on an it says no sim inserted. Ok maybe a fluke setup the device and update it. Still no sim inserted. Noticed that the sim try was sticking out a bit. Eject the sim tray and the tray was slightly bent where the release hole is. Grab a pair of tiny pliers and straighten the tray thinking no big deal. No Sim inserted. Try the sim card and tray from the good phone No Sim.

I called Straight Talk. Dumbest people I have ever talked to. The first 30 minutes was we see the sim card contacts should be facing up. No they should not I have two of these phones the sim only goes in one way face down. Yes but my guide says face up please flip the sim. This phone is defective. No the phone is fine I see here that it needs a byob sim kit purchased from Walmart or our website. I just purchased this phone from you with the sim card in the phone. I understand that but it says here sometimes you have to go buy a new sim. No thanks I want this defective phone replaced. The phone is not defective you just need to go buy a sim kit. The phone has eSIM can I use that? No sir this phone is marked physical sim only. Well that's a problem because the sim slot is defective. No sir it just needs a byob sim.

So now I guess I get to go buy this damn sim kit to prove to them the phone is defective. Then try to get a refund for the sim kit, the service plan, and the phone. This has become a complete pain in my rear end.

So update from my above post.

Drove up to Walmart. They show they have the kit they wanted me to purchase in stock but they have no idea where it is. There aren't any where they are supposed to be. It's late so they tell me to come back tomorrow. Well the next Walmart is a 12 minute drive might as well drive to the next one. Walmart 2 has the kits. I purchase one for $4.88. Drive home questioning my sanity at this point since it's been about 5 hours since I made the first phone call to resolve this issue.

Get home new sim kit in hand and call Straight Talk yet again. I get to start over completely. Explaining the issue saying the sim port really seems defective on this phone. They transfer service to the new sim. I pop the SIM in and guess what still no sim nothing. I tell the guy at this point how extremely unhappy I am and now I have spent more money and am still getting nowhere. The dude goes you know it really seems like this sim slot is bad on this phone (oh really?). He says he's transferring me to corporate support to go ahead and get this phone replaced. Finally!

New person on the phone. Hey looks like you are having trouble with activating a new sim on your phone. NO NO NO. Once again I start over explaining everything. Ok is the sim facing up? No it's not because it's not supposed to be! I tell her she's likely looking at an older SE model phone or another iPhone. Hold for 20 minutes. I think it should be facing upwards. Nope do you see the slot on the left side because if you do you are looking at older iPhone instructions, the sim slot is on the right on the SE3. On hold for another 10 minutes. Oh, I found a document that confirms you are correct. The sim must be defective we can send you a new sim card no problem. Nope! This is the second sim card I drove for an hour to two Walmarts to buy a sim kit. Hold. Hold. Hold. I think this phone has a defective sim card slot. Yes I agree! I have now paid for a phone, service, and a extra sim kit. Well all we can do is refund you for the phone then you can get a new phone and we will move the service to it. You know at this point fine. Oh it looks like you need to send the phone back and I'm not even authorized to do the phone return. I need to send you to customer service. Ok fine am I going to have to start over yet again? No I am putting all the notes into your account to make sure they just work with you on a refund. Please stay on the line so I can transfer you over. Great. Phone rings a couple times. This department is closed please try again later *click*. I have no idea when said department is open or how to reach them short of starting over tomorrow during the workday.

I am now writing this seven hours later from when I started. I got absolutely nowhere and even spent more money. I have never been so defeated.

So hey not saying this deal is bad since I did get one painless phone going, however, a word of warning, if the phone they send you is defective (which seems super possible considering there was visible damage on this phone from the get-go they must have zero QA) good luck trying to do anything about it.

Considering I have a job, no idea if I'll be able to attempt this again tomorrow.

Got this on the third business day.

Phone is in mint condition with 100% battery health. Even still has the apple warranty till mid December.

Came with a usb c to lightning 3 foot charging cord.

Porting from Tello took less than 20 minutes to transfer the number over.

After restarting the phone, wireless set up with automatic/effortless.

Happy camper. Will do the new $25 Walmart straight talk card for the second month to save $10…then proceed to port back to Tello at the 60 day auto-unlock mark.

Thanks OP. Saved me over $100 compared to the same model unlocked/renewed, that I was getting ready to buy on Amazon. A little extra work to have to change carriers temporarily, but that slight hassle is definitely worth the savings.

Just got this deal and activated my one month Bronze with no issues. Phone looks barely used, 100% battery, Apple warranty until late January, and the box says there is a 90 day warranty from ST.

Was going to let this sit for the 60 days to get the unlock, but noticed in the settings that the phone says there are no SIM restrictions. Does that mean I can pop in my daughter's Tello SIM right now and use it, or should I just wait until my 30 day plan or 60 day unlock have passed?

Yes, sounds like it's unlocked and you should be able to use it now. And that's a great reminder for people to check. Some of these may have been returns that were activated on their network and have already been unlocked. A number of people have gotten those in the past.

Edit: SIM swapping can potentially have some odd effects with your ST account with the associated devices, so you may want to watch other replies if that's a concern. But it shouldn't be an issue if you just care about the unlocked phone.

Tello runs on TMo so it won't matter for ST which runs on VZ network (they won't know if its being used on TMo or ATT) -- you can leave the ST sim in the box and not use it

If its alrdy unlocked then do whatever you want with the phone -- you can run the IMEI on sickw.com to check unlock status

Thanks Jatan. Good data point. Any website to check IMEI for unlock status on android phones?
