For less than $100, upgrading to r50 is pretty substantial improvement. Get them directly from Canon

Looks like the refurbished version is sold out on the Canon website. It's frequently selling for around $450. I'm sure it will be back soon.

No this would be a poor option for that. It will be bad indoors with the included lens, and almost useless for actions/sports inside. If you purchased a better lens which can be expensive then you could get by with it but still much better off with a different camera. Don't necessarily need to spend that much on the camera though, in general the lens will be much more important.

I'm new to DSLRs but it's a weird naming convention that the "R50" is better than the "R100".
