OP12R's tech spec is a lot better than the 7a. For example, 8Gen2 chip is waaaayy more performant than Google's G2 which is a thinly veild not very efficient Samusng Exynos chip anyway. Higher refresh rate screen, bigger battery, faster charging and all that.
On the other side, 7a has more decent photo capability, Google flavored Android which imo better than ColorOS, and $100 cheaper. So it depends on your want but I'd personally go with the OP12R, it'll be a better phone spec wise
Good price for a decent phone, might be useful for trading in for Samsung phones down the line considering they are giving $300 for Pixel 7a if you pre-order the flip6 so you'd be literally even if they offer the same trade in for S25 early next year. FWIW they are offering $250 for Pixel 5/a which are OLD phones so I doubt it be lower than $250 for a pre-order trade in.

How big of a difference in the camera image quality is there between the 7a and 12R?

It comes to personal taste really. Pixel photos tend to me more contrasty, HDR-y, sharper and have better night time performance, and OP phones tend to over-saturate a bit with a higher brightness overall, which might look a lot more pleasing to some people. I like photos taken by Pixel phones in general as they look more natural and dramatic at the same time.

Looks like the only good deal of the prime day
Be cautious on the Prime Day Deals. I had one item saved and the prime day deal is now 30% MORE than it was just yesterday. Lol. CamelCamelCamel before buying what seems like a deal.

- writing this from a 7a with a cracked screen
So for the main carriers there's no cellular performance differences until Pixel 9 at least.
