Bluetooth audio (as a standard) can work in one of two ways: great sound/no mic, or mediocre sound/mediocre mic. It's why if you're listening to music on your phone and suddenly go into a call, the sound quality plummets. You can disable the "mediocre sound + mediocre microphone" option in Windows settings (possibly on Mac, unsure as I don't have one). Phones generally are pretty good at switching between the two.

A workaround is to use a separate, standalone microphone. I got an Antlion ModMic Wireless for when I'm on a call/gaming. Most of the good wireless gaming headsets that require good mic + good sound use a 2.4ghz USB receiver that doesn't have BT's limitation.

costco also has xm5 for $299. would that be a better buy for returns?

s it worth buying insurance ($30)? i have never had issues with other electronic products and never bought insurance for them but when it comes to Headphones, it either stops working after a few set of time or just acting on and off.
