The polypropylene used in the Aeropress is not only considered food safe in the US by the FDA, it is also recognized as such in the EU, where the standards are much stricter and more rigorous.

Additionally, not enough testing, especially by independent 3rd parties, has been done on Tritan to know if it truly isn't leaching similar EDCs (some studies have found it does).

Lastly the article you linked explains that the amount of the chemicals leached are in extremely small quantities, and moreover did not test this specific product, just unnamed bottles/containers, and they also had no citations on how the actual study was conducted.

Basically, not enough is actually known about Tritan yet to know if it is "better". What is known is that it breaks down at fairly low temperatures. Even boiling water is enough to make it start breaking down and warping. While Aeropress does not recommend boiling water, let's be real and admit many folks probably do use boiling water when starting their press.

It seems like only the AeroPress Clear is Tritan, XL only has a Tritan Carafe. Anyone know for sure though?

Yeah, which is why I'm surprised this isn't gaining more traction.

Yes only the clear is tritan. The original is made of polypropylene. I own a green clear one, paid full price for it and would do so again. I use it everyday and it just need a simple rinse and looks brand new. Fwiw tritan is the same branded material that makes up vitamix blenders (eastman tritan copolyester)

You have been warned to not to get this. in 5 years you'd be out of thousands of dollars on coffee equipment.

I bought a aeropress in 2018. Now I have a whole section in my home for coffee/equipment.

I bought my 5000 dollars worth before I got my aeropress! Just correlation!

Whoa this seems like the cheapest ive seen on this awesome coffee gadget.
If anyone gets this, also consider picking up a Prismo attachment by Fellow coffee. it costs about same as this whole thing but is worth the money

Sadly the clear ones are not on sale.

What makes the filter you listed better than the perforated solid metal types? I have one of the latter and have used it for years, I'm curious if there's any reason to switch.
I believe you're referring to the Disc ( https://www.amazon.com/DISC-AeroP...07RDXWV4P/ ) ? I have that one as well and also like it. That one is packed with my Go for travel because it's much easier to clean. People in general prefer the taste from the Mesh (thus the 5K + reviews) but if you're happy with a Disc I don't necessarily think it neds to be replaced.

Great coffee maker. Doesn't taste like plastic.

I have both metal + paper filters. I think paper tastes better.

How convenient is this for travel? My partner loves coffee and I want to get him the travel version of it, but its not on sale. Is this model easy to pack for travel?

I think it has a 'cleaner' taste compared to metal. With metal filters I think the coffee flavor is more 'full' but this is all subjective. I haven't been using metal filters strictly because of the concerns with the LDL-cholesterol raising properties (and I am on the high side with cholesterol so need to be careful). I've been just fine with the paper filters though Smilie

This 10oz unit is really tempting to grab. I have the original Aeropress and recently picked up the travel version too (which I like less). As it stands, I only make coffee for myself in the Aeropress, so it probably doesn't make sense to buy another one haha. I recently bought a set of rubber pucks to replace the old one I was using - eventually they degrade and will not properly press (air and liquid leaks out too) so that's at least one piece you'll want to replace over the long-run. I think they're like $5-7 for two on Amazon.
