I got 2tb SanDisk ssd from Walmart in a deal for $69 (rn it's 89.99). If you're looking more store around the same price.

I was referring to disconnects during data transfer more than comfort.
Never had that happen and use mine constantly. Not sure where you read it but likely a bad unit or port issue for whoever said it

What do you mean by constantly? There's a difference between constantly, as in you use it many times a day, or every day, vs. many, many files over a single session. It's the latter that often becomes a problem for cheap drives due to the heat buildup.

The T7 Shield 1 TB was $75 on Prime Day last year as a point of reference. Inflation blah-blah-blah.

Regular T7 has heat issues. The shield series seems to be better.
It's fine when I'm working, but it gets a little hotter than I expected when I'm playing games, though it's not a major issue.

Not sure if anyone is interested but "geek squad refurbished" drives from Best Buy are just returns, I got one 1TB T7 for $53 last year and another one for $56 a few weeks ago, prices always fluctuate and because of Prime Day it's the same price as New - so you'd have to wait it out. It had zero data written to it.

Also got a Samsung 970 Evo Plus NVMe with zero data written to it and only 2 power cycles at $26. I know these aren't labeled new, but just throwing the info out there.

Anyone has experience with Amazon resale? Is there warranty? There's "good" condition used ones for 20% off but I'm not sure it used hard drives are a good deal

I mean I use it constantly for transferring large games, playing games, cloning my drive for friends. It's a good drive at a decent price.

Buy it, hook it up to Samsung magician; if you don't like what you see then return it. Likely to receive a 'new' one in my experience with Amazon used goods

Love it. These are quite old and 2Tb units were selling around $110 a year ago. Super handy when you need to transfer large files quick.

Can anyone else confirm? I'd like to use one of these for dashcam recording in my Tesla. Any recommendations?
This is correct. The issue is the sustained write speeds drop off after a few minutes. The shield does not just make it "feel cooler" it actually helps dissipate the heat. The reason people probably don't notice is will not affect most peoples workflow. But if you know you need sustained speeds then you'll understand why it's important. If not important, buy this and you'll be happy.

**Adding an edit, it'll be perfectly fine for your Tesla.

Thanks I will do that. Is there anything specific I should look out for in Samsung magician?

It's 20% off for USED ones that are labeled "good" condition from Amazon warehouse.
And additional saving if you use the gift card ?

Not sure where you live but my Y's internal temps reach 140F regularly during summer here. If this drive has potential heat issues then it will really be put to the test, not to mention bouncing around in the glove box while driving. I'm not sure why people spend the money on SSDs when you can just use a high endurance SD card with USB adapter instead… cheaper and way less likely to fail, plus they are better designed for constant dashcam recording
