The Pro and Pro Plus are streamers not amplifiers. This device can stream and power your speakers/sub. It is tough to beat the value the WiiM Amp provides even at full price.
I disagree. Compare to the Sonos amp and it's a steal.
This is overpriced? lol, compared to what?

Compared to a used receiver on Facebook Marketplace/eBay + Chromecast / Google TV / Walmart ONN streamer, and you can get both combined for under $100.

This is targeting a different market, but they're correct that this is overpriced for someone who just wants to amplify passive speakers and stream to them. This is great for a small form factor, integrated solution, but Yamaha's entry level HDMI 2.0 / HDCP 2.2 receivers are 17x12x6 work just as well for a lot of people and give so much more amplification flexibility.

This is a great product for people who need it. But a lot of people don't know they can just buy a cheap receiver and a Chromecast and achieve the same effect.
Those streamers don't include amplifier sections. This is an all in 1 device that can power speakers. those other devices cannot do that.

Steps:
  1. Plug streaming device into HDMI-in port on AV receiver
  2. Now it's an all in 1 device that can power speakers

It's funny that you think this WiiM device isn't doing the same thing.

I didn't say it wasn't. You're pretending that none of these devices do and that one is better than another because of it. That's absurd.

I just set up a WiiM Amp in my living room. It is connected via HDMI ARC to my TV. I also have an Apple TV connected to the TV via HDMI. It was very easy to setup the WiiM. The longest part was the 5 minutes or so for the software/firmware update. I used the WiiM app to do the Room Correction and set the EQ for the TV to Vocal Booster. There are builder grade speakers in the ceiling. I wired the left front and rears to the left channel and the right front and rears to the right channel. It sounds good enough for TV. I used AirPlay from Apple Music on my iPhone to connect to the WiiM and it sounded fine (will mostly use for background music not critical listening). The WiiM is switching automatically when moving from TV watching to Apple Music streaming (some early users had issues with it switching between the two). The Apple TV remote also turns on/off all three devices (Apple TV, TV and WiiM). So far, so good. I didn't want to squeeze a full/slim sized AVR into the relatively small cabinet next to the TV. The overall setup will be less frustrating for my wife if the WiiM continues to behave. She hated the 5.2 AVR that we used at first, you often manually had to switch between TV and music settings.
