For those who might have had this in the past, the $250 credit is no longer a statement credit but a voucher to use in the Capital One portal. The portal is run by Hopper and is absolutely terrible for searching. If you search for 3 people in 1 room and you will get rooms with one bed and an occupancy limit of 2 people. There is also no way to have it sort to include additional fees and taxes - you just get the base rate until you select your room and then they add all the other charges. Even if you're using points, you get charged additional points at reservation to cover the tax. There can be a limited selection of hotels in some areas, with many common brands missing (compared to Booking or Agoda, or even the major flag portals like Bonvoy or Hilton). The prices are nearly always higher in the Hopper/CapOne portal than one of the major 3rd party (Booking/Priceline/Travelocity/Agoda/Expedia/Kayak meta) site for both hotels and cars, and ofter more expensive than booking direct. IMHO, if you're going to roll the dice booking 3rd party, you should be getting a better rate. If you use points for other than travel (statement credit) you get 1/2c per point, so it really is a travel-centric reward system. /end rant

Other than that it's a decent card and the Eno one-time/one-vendor card numbers are very helpful.
I have had this card for a year and there has not been a single deal or opportunity for the points.
Same. 800+ credit score and got rejected twice.

I'm going to be looking for a credit card as soon as I close on my house on Thursday. Any suggestions? I use to churn but it's been years since I've done anything because I've been trying to buy a house. I'm going to be broke for awhile but love travel, so something that I could get a flight overseas would be nice.

Chase sapphire preferred. Only $95 yearly and will give you enough points for a decent trip

This is one of the worst deals ever when it comes to travel. When you book through their website, their prices are way higher than booking with a tour operator or doing it through a hotel. And if you have any problem, just try and deal with one of their "fine" customer service reps. The card also didn't work for me in most foreign countries, whereas the Costco Citi card always does. After a year, I canceled and will never go back. It's not worth it. Don't even let them downgrade you to a free Venture card. Same story.

Amex gold has up to 100k offer if you check in incognito, elevated offer currently.
Amex plat would be another option, 175k intro offer.

Math isn't mathing…75k miles in their system is about the equivalent of $750 in travel reimbursement. How does this come up to $1,000?

I had this card in the past. Just be aware if you use Capital One Travel to, say, book a hotel, and something goes wrong at the hotel and they start offering people refunds (ie a/c went out and everyone sweated to death all night long), the hotel won't give you a refund because you did not book directly through the hotel. I had to spend 6 months back and forth with Capital One and the hotel to get them to agree together on the refund that everyone else got the morning after. It was insane.

Well you survived, so you didn't sweat to death, and you still had a roof over your head that night, however less pleasant 🤷

I'd say also get a freedom unlimited (no fee) and plan to keep forever. Combine points to cash in the preferred. Plan it out over time and cancel preferred to get reserve and extra bonus using Chase points!

I've been out of the game a bit and recently got this cap one venture to go with Amex gold I signed up for a few months back. I'll prob sit tight for a bit and cancel my preferred then go reserve in about 12 months.

Keep track of open dates, stay under chase 5/24 rule and watch out for cards that no longer let you earn sign up bonus more than once in a lifetime.

After pre-approval submitted application. They denied. Unnecessary hard pull. Never had Capital One cards before. I always had either Chase or Bank of America. Is there any phone number to call them to find out more information? Chase has dedicated lending department who reviews further and reconsider application.

I know I didn't say, but I've had multiple amex cards in the past, didn't they go only one reward per card and it was lifetime?
