I purchased the Hero11 from the Walmart deal and thinking about returning the camera.

reddit says yes but they also say it depends on airflow and what settings you use.

each model varies.

any "computer" like this heats up with extended use.

All these types of cameras will overheat if you're recording on high quality. Typically they do fine at 1080 paired with quality micro sd card.

I've used Hero 3, 4, 7, and now 9. I keep the video at 2.7k 60 or 4K30 and never had one overheat. In fact, the only issue I've had was a bad battery seal on the 9 that allowed sea water in… nuked the whole camera. If you're running 5.3k anywhere but snow skiing, every action cam will falter after 20 min. It's just the nature of a warm sensor in a small case.

Pretty sure these cams will still work if the company go belly up. Most likely someone else will pick up the brand as it is the only American action cam.

People elsewhere claims that it depends... If you are shooting short clips on/of , you should be fine. If you are shooting extended video 10 min+, it works better if you are doing an activity with lots of cooling airflow like cycling/motorcycling rather than stationary and in the sun.

Hard to imagine them going away completely. They have a decent product and the brand is strong -- at some point, they'd make an enticing acquisition target for someone.

I could also see Google buying them, bungling the assets, then killing the brand 5 years later lol
